Regulator or Ratweiler

I think that the big difference between the two is that the Regulator is noticeably lighter. If you plan on a long hike or if you're carrying a ton of gear, you might want the Regulator. Otherwise, you are talking about a knife that defines the Swamp  The Ratweiler in my eyes is up there with the SHBM is terms of all-time epic designs to leave Wauseon. But then again...beauty is in the eye of the knife-holder!

Ok all this talk about the regulator is making me think I should keep my American flat ground version ???? :-)

THIS ^^^^

I have old and new... Ratweilers are a freaking legend!

thanks for the blast from the past, FB!

Somebody really needs to archive ALL THE BUSSE & KIN ADS IN ONE PLACE...they are as wonderful as the blades themselves!

And can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if DHT Ratweilers were offered with 2004 pricing? It boggles the mind!

dura, have you used a hollow grind Regulator? Much better slicer in my usage, and the rounded choil is really nicer for me. I've owned both and I liquidated the AR after using the hollow grind and haven't looked back, NO REGRETS!

Ditto on the observation that the weight is less with the Regulator. Always liked any form of the Regulator but, if this choice came my way, I feel pretty sure that the Ratweiler would secure the nod.

Keep in mind, both blades are simply top flight.

TTRegulator. Full flat and differential heat treat. The handle is awesome. Dampens vibration and gives more grip options. Rat handle was too big and heavy. As for collectors value the TT comes up at 200-250 and I haven't seen much change. The TT reg is my goto.

Choose 1? The Rat all day every day. That pic is one of the original Rats, WITH the differential heat treat. Those are getting harder and harder to find. ArmorAlleather (Dwayne Puckett) sheath too!

IMO, the only thing the Reg has going for it is the Res-C, making it the lighter blade. Not that there's anything wrong with the Reg (It's a great knife in its own right), but the Rat is by far the better package IMO.

I haven't used the hollow grind version and until you mentioned it, forgot I had one !!!!! Lol
I'll be digging that out now very soon !!! I've got the flat, saber, hollow grind versions. Guess I'll need some kydex ? :-)

Still I think I'd go with the Swamp Rat, if I was the OP
Good luck with your decision !!

I've seen them sell for $300. Especially when kydex is included.

Aren't we talking users here? I'd have a really hard time not saying both. I don't like square choils though. That's why I sold my TT and kept a MO. I'd be pretty happy with the Regulator, but I'd be happier with the Ratweiler.

You can dremel a choil. You can't change the Heat treat or really make it a FF grind.

I'd go ratweiler no question.. no knife has made it on my must have list as fast as the ratweiler...that grip design is comfort at its finest.

The Regulator is a nice pointy knife that honestly has the feel of a fighter. I would imagine it would fit quite nicely in that role too. The Ratweiler has a heavier blade and has the feel like you can cut your way through a car roof if needed. So with that in mind it depends on the mission you have. Overall light tactical role, Regulator. Heavy chopper and all around wrecking ball, Ratweiler.

I agree with Ladams, those two knives are honestly apples and oranges. Go with what appeals to you the most and enjoy it.

I've had both and still have the Wieler
