Rehab for an Old Gal

If I told you, I'd have to...well, you know ;)

and yes, one of the reasons we do not have cable, TOO much stuff on there.

Here's a quick comparison of Old Gal with the new botox'd Gal ;) hopefully you do not mind that I grabbed the images and put them so they are side by side for comparison, owing to some lighting and camera angles they are not exact of course, but does show the transformation that took place;

Beautiful before/after comparison shot! It's too bad the grip catch at the butt of the handle got lost in the shuffle but the owner ought to be very pleased to get a fully functional knife back. In every likelihood it'll be better cared for after this too.
Chances are this old knife has a tapered thickness tang which is something you don't see much of anymore and it would be interesting to know the timeframe of when quillons of high quality European kitchen knives evolved to include a bolster.

Great work, Dave! And thank you for such a detailed look into the process! Very interesting stuff! :thumbup:

Speaking of tossing em in the sink:

MGocAwZ.jpg

I made a matching set of six of these high carbon damascus bladed, mammoth toothed spacer, camel bone handled steak knives for some friends. they had some friends over and when done with dinner the wife tossed em in the sink full of soapy water. She forgot about em overnight.

:eek: :eek: :eek:

Unbelievable! :eek: My mother was a terrible cook, and I can't say she taught me much in the kitchen, but one of the first thing she told me was never to put a knife in the washing-up bowl, because it ruins the handle, and if the knife is sharp, it creates a danger. I can remember it quite clearly, and I was a very young child. Beautiful work BTW Dave :thumbup:

Great G2 wizardry Gary ;) :thumbup:

Small bit of wizardry, basically done in PowerPoint, brought both images into there, and in PowerPoint there is a function that lets you remove the background from a photo and leave just a certain part, not the handiest as it is very very finicky as to what is left, so the resulting image sometimes includes more than you want or less of what you need.

Then I just rotated the older knife to about the same angle as the new one, dragged the image to be about the same size as each other and then even quicker was to just use Greenshot image grabber and captured the combined image.

NOW there are certainly some image wizards around these parts, they are VERY good at what they do, my brain can not fathom all of it as my attention span at times is quite .... look! Squirrel ~~ :)
