Rehandling a CAK

Well I gave it a long soak in Danish oil over the weekend and some Briwax yesterday. I also hit the leather with a little gum tragacanth and the combination of the three worked well on the leather.

I just took it out this morning and gave it some test chops. I chopped and pried at the rotten insides of some box elder to see how it holds up. It seems solid.

The handle fit is perfect for me.

The blade is interesting, it is sort of a CAK/Chitlangi amalgamation.

The handle really turned out well. The color of the wood looks great with the brass fittings.

That's one for damn sure I'd be proud to hold in my hand:thumbup:

So Bruche? Maybe I missed it but what was the purpose of the leather? To make it more shock absorbing?

To fill the voids in the tang and compensate for the tapered tang. Instead of flattening the tang completely it was easier to use a flexible medium to "fill the gaps".
