I listed this on "you know who"-bay and had the listing ended --- not because it was an automatic, but because it was a violation of the "marine mammal" policy. I guess I failed to mention that fossilized ivory usually was much older than anything covered by CITES.

Ebay has killed my knife auctions with walrus ivory on them even if I state that it is fossalised. Apparently Ebay does not want to have to police auctions and determine wether the walrus is really fossalised or not. They are no longer allowing the selling of animal parts including walrus tusk even if it is fossalised.

As if people are going to "kill animals" for the purpose of selling on ebay, "as if" they are saving the world by banning the sale of items at all...

There was a really funny auction a while back where a guy was selling dummy (inert, drilled out) ammo, the photos clearly showed holes drilled, and ebay "caught it" with the word ammo, "no ammo sales", jerked his listing...

The guy posted a 3 foot long hillarious parody of ebay as the next auction, it was really really funny, re: "...will not explode, can't never will, no gunpowder, these are empty..." 27 photos with close-ups etc ammo, something like 30,000 views as everyone was posting the link it was so funny.

ebay is so much smarter than us... they are saving the world, one fossil at a time... LOL. :footinmou

"save the fossilized walruses (walrii{??})!"

of course the new joke is that all the autos on ebay are "ebay legal" and have 5 cm or less blade lengths. That is (of course) if we define blade length as the first 4.5 cm of the blade....

So you just need to get more creative. Let them try to figure this description out:

"Fossilized Walrus Ivory"

Features scales that are one of a set of hard, bonelike structures rooted in sockets in the jaws of vertebrates, typically composed of a core of soft pulp surrounded by a layer of hard dentin that is coated with cementum or enamel at the crown and used for biting or chewing food or as a means of attack or defense that have been outmoded or made inflexible with time, from a large marine mammal (Odobenus rosmarus) of Arctic regions, related to the seals having tough wrinkled skin, and four flippers. Also called sea horse.

Appeal to ebay goes unheeded:

"I have reviewed the item in question and have determined it was removed correctly.

The sale of products made from marine mammals is prohibited on eBay regardless of the age of the item, as many of these species are threatened or endangered. Among these are dolphin, seal, walrus, polar bear, sea otter, whale, and porpoise..."

You know those dang Mastodon are dang near extinct. I hope they don;t allow those products either. And Mother of pearl? If they sell that what will happen to all the little orphaned baby pearls??/
