Rejuvenating the leather on my old Ka-bar

I posted my Ka-bar up a while ago and apparently it's WW2 vintage. Anyway being that old the leather is beat-up but all the pieces are still there. The problem is the hand guard is loose because the leather is old and has gotten hard and shrunk, reducing the pressure on the handguard so it's loose.
I've submerged the handle in Ballistol for the past week, it's helped somewhat, but the handguard still is kinda loose. Is there a better way of rejuvinating the leather? I have mink oil, but I can only apply that from the outside, it seems that to be effective I would need to submerge the handle in something for an extended period of time. Thoughts?
Couple of pics from BEFORE the Ballistol submerge for 1 week:

Any pics of what it looks like after the soak? Since that's what you're now working with, it would be more useful than pics of the handle before treatment.
