REKAT Contact info? Poorly made SIFU!

Howdy, New to BF, but i've been lurking for months. Actually bought my baby, an ats-34 original SIFU from someone here.

Quick Question: Since REKAT has been redoing their webpage for months, how would i go about contacting them? I'd like to complain, and hopefully have them be nice, and fix/replace my knife.

the story:

Owned since mid summer, i love the thing. Moderate use, Frequent cleaning/oil treatment.

Those of you who own one, or have looked at enough pictures know of the little rivet-like things that hold the handle to the rest of the knife. The other day, i realised that one of mine is missing - they're really tiny, and it could be in any of my pants pockets, but is most likely in the washing machine of my local laundromat. This ticked me off mildly - Not as much as, when, the other day, i was examining my knife for wear and tear, and nocited a SEVERE problem. If you own a SIFU, check yours for the following, and you'll know what i'm talking about:

The knife is essentially a sandwich. Two side plates, held apart by cylindars of metal, with the blade in the middle. like most other knives. There is a cylendar, the closest to the bottom of the knife (or the top of the blade when it is closed), which is now CONTACTING my BLADE when the knife is shut. Isn't this horrible!! you can see cuts in the cylendar where the knife has pressed into it and made nitches. Fortunately/unfortunately, the blade shows extremely small wear in that spot - i didn't notice it until recently. there are actually, maybe 4-5 separate notches, because the blade has some wiggle (another complaint of mine), and has been contacting the cylendar in separate places, thusly making different notches. The worst part about this, is that when the blade wiggles while closed, it runs up and down inside these notches, wearing it further. i hesitate to look at it under a microscope, for fear of the severe damage i might find. This is very upsetting, and given the cirumstances, i believe REKAT should at least take a look at this problem for me.

So, questions for other people here:
A) what number do i call/email do i write? do you think admin@rekat.com or support@rekat.com will work? has anyone tried it? i'd like to do a very formal, polite letter.

B) Please examine your sifus (if you're lucky enough to have them... buy one if you aren't) for the things i spoke about - missing rivets, contact between the blade and the cylendar (the tipmost cylendar that comes in contact with the closed blade, which is the bottom most cylendar on the handle.). Tell me if you have this, etc. I originally believed that the contact between a cylendar and the blade unit was made at a non-sharp, noncritical part of the blade, which would be a MUCH BETTER idea than at the blade edge.

random curiosity - does this happen on other rolling lock units?

thank you all, for those of you who have read this far. Happy slicing!

p.s. Does anyone have experience with the CAMshaft which is the main part of the rolling lock wearing down, and becoming less effective? i don't think it's happened to me, but maybe if i used it too much... i'm just worried about that. there's so much friction, so much contact, such an edge to wear down.

just another curiosity, thanks for listening!

Welcome to BladeForums stabstabkillkillkill. When you first click to the REKAT forum notice in the upper left corner the listing for the moderators. Click on either Christina's or Bob's e-mail link and give them a shout. I got their phone number and address before by doing a search on this forum. Now back to waiting for the big brown truck of joy and my new BF SE Sifu.
Regards,
Clyde

I agree with rawhide about the E-mail. I have the phone number if you are interested in calling REKAT. Bob and Christina have a history of standing behind there knives, I wouldn't worry too much about them taking care of you.
The phone # I have is (208)265-8858
Let us know how things turn out Stab.

Actually, my Sifu had the same problem, blade hitting the rear spacer. Traded it back to the dealer for a Carnivore, my EDC. Unfortunatly, it is experiencing slight vertical blade play, possibly to cam wear, but not sure. If any one else has experienced this, do you have any pointers for getting rid of it? Thanks, E

Thanks for the help, folks. Just called.

They tell me that when i send it back to Bob Brothers, he's going to grind down my blade

. I'm not certain i'm happy with this. What do all of you think?

the phone response was instant, though, no waiting time. that was very nice.

thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. Happy stabbing.

Just thought I'd add a note to this one. I noticed that one of my Sifu's was starting to touch the last spacer as well. I fixed this one with a variation of Jim March's tweak and tune. There are two of the four spacers that affect the space left between the blade and that last spacer at the end of the handle, furthest from the blade pivot point, the first and last ones. I opened the blade, and loosened the bottom one a little. I then used a wooden ruler I had laying around to apply some pressure to the spacer from the inside where the knife blade would be, towards the back of the handle. I kept pressure on the spacer while tightening it down. I then did the same thing to the first spacer, nearest the pivot point of the blade, but applied pressure from the back, towards the side where the blade would be when closed. I was able to gain about 1 mm of clearance for the blade. Like anything else that is screwed together, keep a watch on screws, they always come loose!

My Sifu has the problem of the blade contacting the rearmost spacer.I attempted to fix the problem by removing the spacer and using my dremel I ground a flat on the spacer. It helped some but the blade will still make slight contact with the spacer if it is snapped shut.I also tried the March tweak without any sucess.I have adopted Ray`s technique.Open knife quickly, close knife slowly.Ahhhhh So.

I've just noticed that mine will do that as well if I close it quickly. I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the-pin-that-stops-the-blade-from-closing-farther with a bigger one... Till then it's slow closin' for me

I thought the stop pin was the pin that stopped the blade from opening too far. On some knives there's just one pin, but the Sifu has another that stops it from closing too far, that's why I didn't know what to call it.
