REKAT = tinkerers' dreams!

I spent the greater part of Sunday tinkering with my REKAT knives. I have taken my Pioneer (1st gen.) apart many times, but now I had a Carnivour, too, and that needed some work because the serrations on the liners was way too sharp for my thumb to handle (easy, guys...remember my hands are my life and about 50% of what I do is with my thumbs). Since I needed to sand that part down, I figured I'd strip 'em both down and modify them. I wish I had pics, but essentially I did the whole polish routine on all the pivots, although the grind lines are so deep on the Pioneer's tang I could still be sanding and it wouldn't be any smoother! I also went ahead and fileworked a wave pattern (sine wave?) into the liners on the Pioneer. I knocked off the tips of the serrations and cleaned off the bead blast on the Carny's liners, then proceeded to also filework them. For it I angled the round file and used a thin triangle sort of needle file to give it a wave pattern that actually looks like ocean waves! It looks nice, although actually laying a pattern out would've helped the two sides match up better. I'm happy all the same! I also used my drill press to lightly jewel the Carnivour's liners, but I was using probably a 320 sanding disc and the jeweling is so light you can't see it when the knife is back together. Anyway, I turned these two ugly ducklings into real lookers!
