"Relatively" inexpensive, temporary alternative to my small classic Sebenza

The CRKT stainless steel Drifter. It has a satin finish 8Cro13Mov steel blade with an excellent framelock lock-up. You can find these for less that $20. No where on the knife does it say China either!:D

I dunno, I would just carry the Sebenza. That's why you bought it right? If I didn't carry a Sebenza, my Spyderco Caly 3 CF would be my EDC blade.

Benchmade 707 maybe?

Should be able to find them for less than $100.

Looks similarish in shape...might get addicted to the axis lock though.

Doug Ritter MINI RSK Mk1 Knife for just over $100 or for ~$60 and in different steel a BM 556 mini-grip. Either would be an excellent less expensive alternative to your small seb.

I agree. Knives should be used and you should have your favorite handy.

Exceptions: anything that might hurt the blade or just totally gum up your favorite, then you turn to your beater knife. I use my multitool blade for that sort of thing.

It's funny, when I travel out of state (I'm in CA which has no length limit on folders) I change to my large Sebenza as the alternate! That's what I carry in Nevada when I go to Lake Tahoe.

But I understand worrying about flying with the thing, there's a ton of theft. What a lot of people have been doing when they travel is to carry a spyderco or other knife with a hole in the handle - and use a cheap cable lock to attach it to the inside frame of your luggage. Way too much effort to steel that way. Lacking a handy cable lock, last time I flew I took a Kershaw Lahar in my checked bag - certainly a very good factory knife, but I'm not going to cry about it if it vanishes, not like the Sebbie.

If you're asking about an inexpensive alternative that's also a frame-lock with similar steel, then I'd say get a Kershaw Random Leek. It's not a Ti frame-lock, but for under $100, who'd expect it to be? It's also made in the U.S., 4" closed, with a 3" S30V blade.

I have one in my bag just in case. I keep it in a kydex neck sheath with ball chain. That way I can neck carry it or just take it out & clip it in my pocket. While I definitely prefer my small classic micarta Seb, the Random Leek's not a bad knife at all. In fact, I believe it's the only A/O I own now.

Benchmade monochrome? It's a really good deal, and I love mine because I never worry when something happens to it.
