Reliable epoxy

Joe can I ask what the colloidial silica filler does to or for the epoxy. Thanks

All epoxies require some thickness of the glue in order to work. About .005" I believe. The filler prevents you from
squeezing out the epoxy beyond the size of the filler beads, thus ensuring the needed gap. I tend to use glass
enamel powders myself because I have a large selection available (with only a minor risk of marital mayhem if
I use the wrong one :)).

Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and experience everyone. I'd also like to know what purpose the silica filter serves?? I think I'm gonna try out the West System and Acraglas and see how they do at different jobs for me.

That makes sense... cool, I learned something today :)

You will have to buy their applicator gun, or make up something.

Don't think so. I'm going to use a piece of wood. :D

Re colloidal silica, it will increase the strength, and is used for filleted joints. However it will make it less flexible. Wood fibres would be a better additive for our application.

I'm just responding in here so that in the future I can reference this thread by doing a search for my name in this forum. I'll be trying to put handle scales on a Spyderco Mule sometime in the future.
