Not sure what to call this one...

This one is inspired by some Anglo Saxon Seaxes though I may be the only one who sees it.:p

There are a few new elements here for me and a start of an direction I will explore further back in time.

The blade is W2, 9 7/8" guard to tip with a sharpened clip. (hence the fighter)
It's quite thick at .284 at the guard with a distal taper that puts the balance point right at the plunge.

The spacers are bronze with wrought iron ferrule and butt capp, the guard being forged from an old chain saw bar.

The handle is white oak that I aged heavily. The OAL is about 15 3/8"

I am still contemplating a style for the sheath.

Thanks.

This is really, really neat, Stuart.

All the materials and textures, the carving and wrapping on that antiqued handle, contrasting with the slick forward part of the blade, make a super piece.

Beautiful work, Stuart. Love that style of blade with the raised clip and the hamon that follows the bevels. The fittings and handle all go together really well and the carving is just icing on the cake.

That is just too cool for school. Love the mix of design themes / cultural influences. Takes a good eye to pull that all together into a cohesive whole. Really well done.

indeed:p.

This is a killer piece, Stuart. One of your best, in my book. I like it when you reach back like this. Although your contemporary style pieces are terrific, it's the 'historical referencing' that you have a major talent for, and the knives borne of this are always more interesting, to me- for what it's worth.

It should have a wooden scabbard with runes and sh!t.

All the good stuff to say has been taken, so I'll just say you have done well......very well.
