vandros, That is not a M5 bayonet, or a M8A1 scabbard. A M8A1 scabbard has a metal tip at the end. Looks like it might be a M6 (for M14) or more probably a M7 (for a M16) bayonet. John
 
vandros, I see the marking, Eickhorn made these long after the originals were made, and if you google images of M8A1 scabbard you will see the tip is reinforced with metal. If you google M5 bayonet you will see that the M5 does not have a muzzle ring that goes around the barrel of a M1 Garand rifle. Rather it has a "Stud" that sticks out to the rear and fits into the opening of the gas tube underneath the barrel of the M1 Garand rifle. I think the bayonet you have listed is a M7 for a M16 type rifle. John
