Rem-Oil?

I used REM oil for years on my knives and guns but about a year ago I switched to Eezox. I've been extremely please with its corrosion prevention and its pleasant smell but the reason I like it best for knives is the fact that it dries after it is put on. Here is a link to a test that compared a number of corrosion prevention products that most people are familiar with. http://www.6mmbr.com/corrosiontest.html.

i've tried just about all of them (i welcome suggestions from others re: new ones to try) and have conducted my own (very unscientific) tests, mainly salt water corrosion.

break-free clp overall is the winner, easily available and is a very good rust preventative.

eezox is a superb rust preventative, but be sure to apply it very lightly.

corrosionX ranks very highly as well.

rem-oil (spray) i would rank somewhere in the middle, by no means the best but definitely better than nothing at all (as compared to the test sample).

militec-1 is the only one that i tested that did not do well at all re: salt water corrosion...for whatever reason. this conclusion is based upon the free sample they sent to me awhile back, maybe they have changed the formula now, i don't know.

one thing that does stand out is that w/ almost all a very light coating will do the job; i always tended to apply too much, and i believe that especially with firerarms this could cause problems.

The Rem-Oil mentioned here...is that the standard one from Remington used for gun care? (meaning that it works just as well for knife care?)

Rem oil is great, and is what I use most.

Regular 10W30 oil (no detergent) is good also, particularly for larger carbon steel blades.

Is Rem Oil food safe?
I believe I read a while back in a similar thread that RemOil did have toxicity issues. That said, I've done food-prep with knives I've used RemOil on and I'm still here. I just wouldn't go around using it right after application.

I used RemOil for a while with no complaints. Still do for storage on a few knives. For my users, I've switched over to mineral oil to coat the blade (due to the aforementioned toxicity RemOil) and Quantum Hot Sauce (an oil designed for fishing reels) for the mechanical workings. It does seem to "gunk up" a bit quicker than RemOil, though. I've not tested it's rust resistance; however, it has taken good care of some of my reels which weren't exactly designed for saltwater use, even if I chose to ignore that fact.

i use it and it works great. I use miltech-1 on my more expesnive folder's joints though but for general lube, rem-oil is great.

I used Rem-Oil (saturated cloths - got hundreds of them free once) for years on my knives and my firearms. I only recently made the switch to Break-Free for my firearms and Blue Lube for my knives. Rem-Oil is great I just like the others better. Seems like I used more Rem-Oil too. I can be more frugal with the newer stuff...maybe its just beccause it costs way more and I use it more sparingly!

i use remoil for pivots springs corrosion plus for rust

rem-oil works pretty good on most knives, i like tuffglide a bit better but if i had to i could make it with just the rem-oil, its a bit cheaper than tuffglide,
