A friend of mine was cleaning out a old hardware store and came across this old knife. It had about a ten inch Blade but the last few inches were chipped up pretty bad. I cleaned it up and cut about half of it off and made it a five inch blade. It was convexed already but I sharpened it up and this old girl really cuts. It's a fairly heavy Carbon steel blade. There are no markings of any kind on the knife but it now has a new lease on life.:D

Looks good. It sounds like it did a lot of work once, should be able to take right up where it left off. :)

I like old beater lookin knives like that that get put back in service with a little reworking. Good stuff bro.

i'm pretty sure i have the twin of that blade based on the handle...

about a 10" blade, ground very thin at the edge, maybe a little over 1/16" stock (but less than 1/8" thick)? about a 1.5" wide blade at the widest with a nice taper to a point in a french chef's style? and the handle looks about identical...

it would be neat if we had the same knife..

Here is another shot. Tomorrow I will pick up the other piece and lay them together. It sound like the exact same knife. It's sturdy as heck. Now I gotta make a sheath for is. Maybe I will send it to you for a better sharpening job then you can check it out. One rivet is a bit loose and one scale has a small crack in it.

I want to do the same thing. How did you cut the blade down ? Do you use a grinder to reshape the point?

I cut it close to that shape with the Dremel. I cut while my wife sprayed water on it with a spray bottle. I stopped a couple times and put the knife in a bucket of water as well. I finished shaping it with the belt sander. I have a 1x30 inch belt sander. All I have for belts is one wore out 120 grit belt which is starting to be a good finish belt. I just ordered some new belts with a couple of 1200 grit belts. I still want to get a leather belt for it for sroping.

Nice mod!
How long is the piece you cut off?
You might be able to make a little neck knife out of that leftover piece.
If the steel is good no sense wasting it.
