I have just registered and this is my first new thread. I just had my Father's favorite knife remanufactured. He had used the knife for a hammer, screwdriver, fingernail picker, and everything else. The knife is a folding pocket knife identified as a Carl Schlieper, Solingen, Germany. One side of the blade is marked D.R.G.M. 1423929.
Does anyone know what this code means?

The knife originally had rosewood handles but one was broken from abusive use. The handle now is of Cocobolo wood, from Africa. The hinge pin was redesigned with German Silver.

I don't know much about knives yet, but this is a beautiful knife. My father should enjoy it.

Any comments

Thanks for the information. I understand that Carl Schlieper made a lot of knives, cutlery, and advertising cork screws.

This knife has a single blade about 3.75 inches in length. It will be a nice knife to carry.

Is the D.R.G.M. 1426929 used for this particular knife, or is it for this style of knife etc.?

I seem to be bouncing around a lot, thus the name.

Thanks again,

Welcome to Bladeforums! You may be new here, but you did good restoring an old knife like that. I hope you stick around -- even if you bounce around from time to time! :D

I'll be presenting the knife to my father next week in Texas when we visit for his birthday. I'll have to post his reactions.

BTW, my personal knife collection is not very impressive yet. I have a Swiss pocket combination knife, a Leatherman Wave, a Cutco pocket knife, a Caesar's Stainless Steel Hunting Knife, and a South Bend Gear Fillet Knife. We have a new Knife Store here in Prescott Valley, AZ, where I'll need to become a customer.

Great News! Dad was absolutely thrilled with the knife. When he finished admiring the beautiful restoration I asked him if he would enjoy carring it in his pocket. He said, "This is to beautiful to use. I'll put it in my drawer and just admire it." Well, I'm glad that he likes it so much, but I really hope he will use the knife in some way.:D

BTW, I asked Dad how he got the knife. He related the following story. Some time after Webb AFB closed he was given a large box of odds and ends. He found the knife in this box. The grips had already been damaged when he received it. He cleaned it up as best he could and sharpened the blade, and he has enjoyed carring it ever since. Last year I told Dad about my friend who makes hunting knives, and Dad let me take the knife and bring it to AZ.

Dad gave me a three bladed "Old Timer" folding pocket knife while I was there. He has one just like it, and I will enjoy carrying one. I think of him everytime I take it out.

I'm very sorry to hear of Gadi's passing. I know he will be missed by all of you who knew him. Since I just recently joined the forum, I did not have the opportunity to meet him. My sincerest sympathy to his best friends and family.

Sincerely,
