i am rethinking tip up for my recently finished knife-kits DDR2

Okay, seriously, you folks have got to remember to take pictures before you get it stitched up.

And, I need to post a thread on the correct way to use super glue on a wound...

Please Don't Try this at Home. Professional stunt finger at work...:eek:

I like the super glue myself. Kept me out of the ER more than once..

man, i must just be lucky! When I cut the hell out of myself, it's usually on a finger and I put a band aid on it right away (maybe 3-5 :D) and have never needed a stitch!

This is a subject I hold close since I've also had some bad experiences. I don't think it has anything to do with tip up or not. You really think it's any better for a blade to open in your pocket tip down? In my case it just came through my pants pocket & I had a needle pointed 4" blade sticking straight out from my thigh- it could have just as easily lodged straight into my thigh.

A pivot screw that's adjusted slightly loose shouldn't matter either, IMO. I mean, we're not talking about friction folders, are we? Don't we design folders with all kinds of springs, detents, and other mechanisms precisely to keep the blade closed in your pocket? And don't you think they should work all on their own?

A thumb stud that's too big, or stands well out from the handle material where it will always get caught on the pocket, I do see as a problem.

I've tried the superglue trick a time or two, but I can't get it to hold while the skin is wet/bloody. Is there a trick?

i know what your saying... the thumb stud is a bit oversized, and i may change that. i did that on purpose since it's single sided, but perhaps there is a better solution. the knife wasn't open in my pocket. as i was pulling it out, the stud hung and when i repositioned my hand to grasp it, the blade was open and... hello slicy! i probably wouldn't have had it stitched, but i was at work and it would NOT stop bleeding. the girls in the office were getting a bit queasy. i'd have gotten a picture of it prior to stitches, but you'd have only seen blood... :D

sweet! other poeple use super glue on wounds!

even if i am crazy.. i am not alone! *highfives*

Yep. Put some pressure on the cut to stop the bleeding then clean up the area after. Hold the edges of the cut together and run a stripe of glue across the top. Works great for those little 2-5 stich cuts but I wouldn't use it on anything bigger.

To superglue a wound it has to have stopped bleeding. Time works. Visine works (gets the red out). If it won't stop bleeding after about fifteen minutes you need medical attention.

Clean the wound well, inside and out. Don't be a pussy, just do it. You don't want to glue up an infection and have to wait two days for the super glue to come off. I use soap, then alcohol. Man up.

Line up the two sides of the wound, if you do it crooked, it will be crooked after it heals. Makes a weird finger print.

Apply the glue to the outside of the wound. It is not necessary to put it inside. Superglue is a CA, it reacts with water to form a plastic. This means that breathing on or wetting the glue will make it set faster.

Apply an even coat of glue on and around the wound and lay a cut out patch of fabric bandaid over the wound. This acts like stitches, holding the two sides together and hardens into a protective shell that protects the wound from bumps. You're using the adhesive part of a fabric bandaid over the wound, not the pad part.

This is for cuts in the skin. It is not for cuts that will need to drain such as deep cuts into meaty areas or puncture wounds. It works by aggressively holding the two sides together and sealing out funk. It can be peeled off in three days or will fall off in four or five, at which point the wound should be holding together on its own.

Hahahah...I like it, and I agree. I always consider the pain of cleaning a wound to be the penance for doing whatever stupid thing I did to cut myself in the first place.

Remember, pain is weakness leaving your body. Gotta love the look on my patients' faces when I tell them that! :D Hey, if it was easy, we wouldn't be doing it, heheh.

i actually use a little bit of fiberglass tape with the super glue to hold it together.
and you gotta wash it.. but other than that.. it is SOOOOO much better than a trip to the ER. and faster.. cheaper.. and more manly

hehe.. i dont like to advertise that i cut myself to my mom (she laughs at me)... so glue works better for me.
