Remember my last thread about my sharpening issue?
It was my Sebenza. I couldn't get it sharp. Period. Any method. Nothing.
Well I got sick of looking at it. Just sitting there. It's been two or three months since it's seen my pocket.
I figured that tonight was the night!
I was gonna make this thing sharp if it meant using a grinder.
I started sharpening. And sharpening.
Left. Right. Left. Right.
It seemed awfully smooth...

And then I thought....

The stones are dirty!!!
It was as simple at that. Really. It was.
All of those issues I was apparently making up in my head. Gone.

I'm happy I tried that first because it was heading back to Chris this week.
I can't believe it took me so long to think of that.
Just had to share folks. :D

Yeah, definitely a V8 moment, I know I've had mine. But, did you get the knife sharp????

They clog faster than you might think. I clean my stones often, after every use, and sometimes two or three times during sharpening if I am sharpening a particularly dull knife.

I've always used Comet with Bleach and a Toothbrush (actually it's the brush that comes in an M-16 cleaning kit - so it's a little stiffer than your average toothbrush) to clean my SharpMaker stones.

Wow. I'm glad I came across this thread. I have a Sharpmaker and was wondering why a knife I ran on it the other night didn't feel super sharp. Thanks for posting.
