This was basically me thinking to myself after reading some stuff, and figured it would be a good thing to say out loud....
In the last 2.5 weeks, our happy home on the interwebz has changed drastically. It's not obvious, unless you really look. The release of the Shorts and the Machax has new people flooding in like I've never seen before. For the longest time since I've been here (BH#68), this has been a pretty close knit, smallish community. Suddenly, the world is starting to see what we've known about for a long time, and new people are showing up every day to learn more about Becker.
Why bring this up? Because I think a lot of us are hard-wired for the small club, the usual topics, and general familiarity that comes with it. But this is VERY quickly becoming like most other forums out there, with new people showing up every day. It started dawning on me in the last week when the familiar names were suddenly dilluted with unfamiliar ones.
AND SO, there are BOUND to be a lot of questions that we've heard 1000x. And from people who are new and didn't automatically review all the stickies. People new to Becker had to have had a favorite knife before, so there are bound to be inevitable "I think this is better" type stuff.
We just got to remember to keep our "Welcome and Helpful" hats on as this community goes through this crazy growth spurt. I kind of relate it to my time in the Navy. The public sees a recruiting commercial, but out at sea we are are usual crazy selves. This forum is a RARE treat in the internet world. It's my favorite place to hang out now because of the people. Lets just be diligient about keeping it that way. Moose can't be expected to be the sole voice of reason here. Beckerheads are representing Ethan and his Knives, so lets be careful and remember that.
This isn't stemming from any one thing or person or event. Just something that occured to me today. Rememeber it and people will see why this place rules.
Back to my usual irreverant self.....![]()
I'm one of the newish dudes who as learned a good bit..plus, you guys have been very welcoming here...hint to new guys, just jump in conversations with people, bring some decent knowledge or questions and you will be fine....
Very well said C Tanner..and thanks from a new guy like myself. Although I did have many a question..I did take the time to read the stickies and browse through the forum and learn (ie: the bk5 is the best cause clich said so, the bk9 is the king and when you cant decide which becker to buy..you buy both or three) and participate. Hopefully the new members will also take the time to do the same, seeing as unlike most forums..there are a bunch of great guys here who are willing to share their knowledge and bust your chops at the same time.
You learn fast. Normally I'd give Clich shit about the BK5 (not a fan) but since he is chiching my PB....THE BK5 RULEZ!!!!
pardon my newb, but i am quite new to bladeforums and the Becker community. I bought a bk-2 about two years ago and while doing some research on the knife to see if anyone else was as impressed as i was, I found this site. thought it was cool to see that there is a community that appreciates knives the way i do.. Although I am not an avid "forum cruiser" I always make sure to check in at least once each day to see the whats going on in the becker community.
To the people that make this forum happen, your hard work is greatly appreciated.

If you filter through the snark and good natured ribbing you can learn a lot here, just my $0.02.As a new guy also I've found that it is less of an issue to ask the fundamental Becker questions in the General forum. The response seems to be pretty good there. Once I actually spend more time with the Beckers I own I'll come back here. Until then it is a better fit in the general forum.
