Ban just steered me towards a great deal on a Remington 1100.

I'm going to take it to the range pretty soon and see what she'll do.

The main reason for it is a home defense weapon (I may buy a house in a bad neighborhood). I want to make it a little more tactical.

Who makes the best magazine extension?

I've done a little bit of searching and three names jump out, Vang Comp, Wilson and Briley.

The gun is blued and I would like the extension to match.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't install a Competition Master Carrier (it's supposed to make loading easier).

This shotgun will also be my backup zombie weapon, for after I get tired of swinging around my AK.

Scattergun Technologies ( I think it may be owned by Wilson now ) makes a good one. also being a simi-auto, be careful that adding a extension doesn't make it un-reliable. stock the gun will hold 5 shots, personally I would just shorten it up as much as possible 20'' bbl. and a shorter stock.

Get yourself a Remington 870 with a mag extension for Home Defense! Reliability would be my main priority and a pump shotgun gets my vote:thumbup: Semi-auto shotguns are fast, fun, and has less recoil. But I still prefer a foolproof setup if my life is on the line.

I would totally trust a 1100 for self defence, I have been using one for hunting for over twenty years and never had a missfire caused by the gun.
But I do have a 20ga. 870 for home protection. If someone were to break into my house the sound of a pump shotgun slide racking a shell into it should be enough to get any sane criminal out.

PUMP PUMP PUMP, YA WE DO THE PUMP! ????? BUTTONS OH MY!! Pump gun all the way for home defense! Ive got benellis and remington semis, but the 12 guage by my bed is a police dept surplus pump gun!!! RACK goes the slide and the intruder is GONE! You can still track him by smell as i guarantee he shit him self!!! LOL!!

I don't know about the tactical accessories for the 1100 but one of my team mates uses a Briley extension on one of his 1100 and loves it.

I shoot a 1100 that I had Magnaported and put a Jack West adjustable stock on that sees 250 to 300 rounds a week so I know 1100 maintenance.

Just a couple suggestions for you would be to buy a spare extractor, fireing pin, and fireing pin spring. These parts are readily available and are fairly simple to install your self with some practice. I know because I've replaced all of these parts on my 1100s.

I would also suggest that you get a small pair of needle nose pliers and some pipe cleaners to add to your cleaning kit.

If you have any maintenance questions feel free to contact me, I'd be more the happy to help out.

Thanks for the link Guyon, I starting to get inspired to pimp up my other 1100.

yeah nothing like an empty gun for home defense. . . and making sounds telling the intruder exactly where to shoot. Good thing the criminals in your area are drug free, unarmed, and recently passed a psychological evaluation. Do they call ahead and let you know when they are stopping by?

I would never rely on the sound of a shotgun to save my hide. Having said that ....I would not doubt that it would intimidate a lot of criminals. One thing to keep in mind is that your average criminals are looking for easy targets that won't put up a fight. The sound of a shotgun will make them think twice and possibly move on to a easier target. Unless of course the homeowner was the intended target.....nothing short of shooting them down will stop them in that case.

Choate machine . Find some federal low recoil buckshot (ammoman.com)and practice alot. for a stock you can look at speedfed and knox .

I too have chosen to go with the pump-action 870. I got a used one from Scattergun Technology which is now owned by Wilson Combat, and unconditionally covered by their warranty.

You can see it in this pic with the Wilson extension.

Some folks store with empty chamber because of children. My 870HD hangs locked on one of these. No way to keep a shell in the chamber.

Most criminals don't want a confrontation especially one against a shotgun. the sound of a pump shotgun is a warning, if they don't heed that warning the next sound might be a #3 buck shot. If someone breaks into your house your main goal is to protect your family, not go looking for someone in your house that's the job of the police. get your family in one room and guard the door and wait for the police to get there. ( if you stay in one room you have the advantage )

Didn't mean to get off topic the Remington 1100 is a good gun for self protection when modified for that purpose go to www.midwayusa.com they have allot of things to convert that gun to a good self defense gun.

Does anyone make a similar one that uses press button combos? I just hate fumbling with keys during a stressful situation.
