Remington 1100?

Get yourself a Remington 870 with a mag extension for Home Defense! Reliability would be my main priority and a pump shotgun gets my vote:thumbup: Semi-auto shotguns are fast, fun, and has less recoil. But I still prefer a foolproof setup if my life is on the line.

:thumbup::thumbup:

870 deer gun (20" IC smooth bore, rifle sights) and about another hundred bucks for two round extension, new follower, fire sights and you're good to go.

Most criminals don't want a confrontation especially one against a shotgun. the sound of a pump shotgun is a warning, if they don't heed that warning the next sound might be a #3 buck shot. If someone breaks into your house your main goal is to protect your family, not go looking for someone in your house that's the job of the police. get your family in one room and guard the door and wait for the police to get there. ( if you stay in one room you have the advantage )

Didn't mean to get off topic the Remington 1100 is a good gun for self protection when modified for that purpose go to www.midwayusa.com they have allot of things to convert that gun to a good self defense gun.

Roger that!

That's the same barrel as on this gun.

Does Williams make fire sights interchangeable with these Remington sights?

Great recomendations guys but you all forgot mossy 590a1 love mine 500 is great outdoor gun (slug/bird) but perfer the 590 to HD. Dogs and alarms are also great the harder it is to break in the more likely they will look else where.

My point was, is that you don't know what might happen. who says you will have the opportunity or time to herd your family to a safe area? The old "rack the slide, scare-em away" fallacy is so prevalent that you need only count the posts on any shotgun thread before someone repeats it- 7th reply in this thread.

It's akin to saying you carry a self defense pistol without a round in the chamber, because showing the gun will probably be enough.

My 870 has a Remington mag extension tube (20"bbl-8 shot total w/ extension) but I haven't used it in 20 years.

I also have a Pachmayr pistol grip and I don't use that, either.

If I'm going into the bush I may set it up for combat but for home defense? It just makes the gun too heavy and I'd end up with a suspected "Rooney gun" as my friend Dean Speir of the website TheGunZone.com calls them.

I'm with (the now deceased) Col. Jeff Cooper on this one: "If you shoot two you stuff two."

After all, no one will ever say, "Come on boys, let's rush the man with the shotgun! He can only get a few of us!"

Don't laugh! I know a guy here that thinks this is a good idea :D. Cocked and locked with a round in the chamber is the way to go. If the gun is going to clear leather then it will most definitely go BANG! Or at a minimum get a good pistol whuppin Bennie Cooley style.

Yes, check Brownells or Midway. They're pretty quick too:thumbup:

I have the same setup except for the side saddle. I like to spill the box and scramble for the loosies to load. Luckily, Zombies will always wait for you to top off before resuming their pursuit:thumbup:

If you cut you forearm short or replace it with a police style shorty you can fit a six round saddle.
