Remington 1178.. A new EDC UPDATE...

Hmmm. Interesting! To make matters even more confusing, my 1173 has the faux-stag handles that look exactly like the 1178s above.

Maybe I have a 1178 instead of a 1173? I'll check when I get home.

Thanks for adding the great pics Roland. Those are nice specimens.

When a company makes changes to a model, I always wonder why, and who decided it needed to be done. I like the look of the scales on your 73's with the jigging, but also like the faux stag (stagalon ?)

Just wanted to share my thoughts on this knife after receiving it.

Aside from having a very tiny crack from the center top pin, to the top of the scale, it is a nice little knife.

Fit and finish is very good. Springs are flush and have no gaps. I would rate the springs at around a 6. The blades have zero play and have halfstops, which I wasn't aware of. But thats O.K, because I like em :D

I was surprised to find that the knife will shave. It needs a little stropping though IMHO, but thats easy to fix. The paperwork that came with it states that the blades are Rockwelled to 56-59, so we shall see how they hold an edge.

I can see this one working its way into th edc rotation

Here's one in bone Mike. I think they made them in Cocobola too.

as long as pocket knives are produced these patterns will be repeated over & over. certainly one of the best known classic patterns in all the world bar none.

Great knives made by Camillus using their 440A Stainless steel.

I had to work on my blades to get them to shaving sharp, but they took a great sharp edge. Mine had the same crack at the top pin that yours does, but for EDC is not an issue. If I was a collector, I'd have passed on the knife. Nor would I have sharpened it. I like the one I have; it's a great pocketable size with a good size handle and sturdy blades. Good stuff.

Thanks Steve. I was actually watching one of those, and screwed up. I thought the auction had one more day on it . The bone versions look really nice. Is that one 3 5/8 inches closed ?

I can't argue with that Dennis

Yep. I've had a few other Camillus knives in the past and they have done a fine job.

I agree Ed. Even though the seller offered a complete refund, I sent him a message saying it was not necessary, because I really like the knife, and it is going to be used
