The surplus store here I use, keeps the 1K spools right in the middle of the floor. They want that stuff gone.
I do the same thing, but my favorite thing is the "browse" feature of the surplus store. I wander around for an hour just reading stuff on the uniforms. Pretty cool.
Para-cord dot com is another good place to find what you are looking for, as well as Cheaperthandirt. They have the new 8 strand for sale now, or at least they did in the new Master catalog

I went today and they had grey and all sorts of colors. So I bought 2 100ft of that and 100ft of orange just cause it looked cool. And I got the remington sheath. 15bucks looked like it was on clearance. Got the black one. Love it. Would go buy another if I had a fixed blade to put in it. And it fits my gerber big rock camp knife perfectly. And in the little front pouch I can fit a surefire g2 sized flashlight. The only thing I don't like is the buckle on the leg strap seems like it could come done at anytime. Other than that it seems like a good buy. And it's molle compatible.
