Remora Wraps Anyone?

I'm home with the crud today (acute bronchitis, yeah!) and was playing around with a wrap for my BK-13. The knife is flat and compact, and I wanted to keep it that way. Here's what I came up with. I took the innards out of some orange paracord I had laying around (no innards equals flatter wrap). And to keep bulky knots to a minimum, I came up with the brilliant idea of not using knots. Instead, I simply heated up the paracord until it got nice and bubbly and then just mashed it flat with the (flat, not pointy) end of a golf pencil that was handy. Voila. Nice little wrap. It improves the grip significantly while it keeps the low profile of the knife intact.

Let's see those Remora wraps if you've got 'em.

Quick addition: if you try something like this, the melted paracord does stick for a bit, but give it time to cool and solidify and it'll pop right off.

Nice work, very plain, but functional, I love it. I been thinking of doing handles for my Remora, but I wouldn't know what to use. I love parawraped handles too, so this may be better. Thanks.

Cool - I just re-wrapped my BK-11 and used the melty paracord strategy too. Way nicer than a big, floppy knot.

I actually extended the handle of my Remora. It now has a beautiful Olive wood handle, which is actually longer than the original one. Great knife after the mod. Only thing is, does not hold an edge for the life of it... O.o

Was there ever any talk of KaBar making a 1095 run of these little guys?

Thanks for the post Guyon. I just scored 2 of these and was deciding what to wrap it with. I may go with waxed thread like I did on my Izula.

Melting the ends works better than a bulky knot , Imo.
The Remora is a great back-up to carry anywhere. Takes up almost no space.

if you can't tie it, melt it :)

i've been thinking of dipping the skeletonized neckers in tool dip for quite a while now. might be interesting to wrap it first to shape, then to dip it. possibly even soaking in parafin too/instead.

hiwa, I like that waxed thread wrap.

I tried dipping a Busse Skeleton Warden (neck knife) in Plasti-Dip once, but it wouldn't fill the small holes very well. If the little holes were already filled with paracord, it might work a lot better.

Post some pics like to see how they look.

Here's a pic of my Remora I wrapped yesterday. I liked how you did yours, so I tried to mimic the look. It appears I used a different style of cord. Well now my wife has a fancy letter opener and I have permission to go out and buy the USA version! :)

Cool pink. I used mine as a striker the other day. Worked pretty good.

pink! esee spies! :>

looks good. will have to try this sometime. perhaps with thread, or kite string.

it's even thinner, and possibly finer surface area will provide nice grip. mmm.

Here is a pic of mine. I still wanted to use the sheath seein' how it is my little neck knife.
