Hi everyone, I have a KMG mounted to this bench i made.

I currently have a one horse motor and at full power it seems to vibrate the table latley. I have a two horse motor with vfd coming soon and would like some ideas about getting a very sturdy low vibration mounting setup. Anyone have pics or ideas on a new bench or mount?

I don't have a pic but I mounted mine under the bench top. Might help your problem a bit by lowering the center of gravity. I would also strengthen that bench a little with cross braces and add weight on the bottom shelf.

Patrice

PS: How about a nice coat of paint on that KMG while you are at it. :p ;)

LOL It would be quite an undertaknig to clean and prep it. Thanks for the reply good hints to think on.

Chris,

Patrice's under the bench mount inspired me to go that route with mine also.

The pics arent the greatest but your bench looks similar in size to mine. some cross braces will sturdy up the bench and may help the problem of the vibration.

I'm wondering how evenly your legs sit on the floor and if perhaps some wooden door shims under any low leg may assist in stabilizing any bench vibrations.

I've had mine set-up for awhile now and it runns smooth and vibration free with a 3 HP grizzly motor under the bench.

Ahh I see what you mean about under the bench mounted. Thats a great idea as for the legs I will check and use shims. I have plenty of lumber lying around I will do the cross braces as well. Thanks for the tips

Here is a quick pic of mine. Of course the other grinder and disk sander add weight to the whole thing helping reduce vibration. I agree with Josh about the shims. You can also make some adjustable feet easily enough with some bolts and a few pieces of steel.
If you want I'll take a pic ot the ones I made for my mill.

It depends on what is vibrating. It could just be that it is lightweight table; the heavier the less it will vibrate. If there is nothing supporting underneath that big plywood sheet, it will resonate and loosen up its mounting hardware and start to vibrate. I would check that, if it is loosening, maybe loosen it up a bit more just enough to run a bead of silicone in the joint and re-fasten it to the frame. try some thin pieces of rubber under the legs too.

The bracing is a valid point too. Squares and rectangles will always flex no matter how much you reinforce them, triangles don't flex.

Thanks patrice that picture helped. This is the way i wll set up the new motor when it arrives.

No need to but thanks for the offer.

I mounted my KMG and motor to a big piece of 1/4 steel plate. To further stabilize it, I drilled into the wall and bracketed the table direct to the wall. Not only does this lower the vibration, it also makes it very stable since it cannot move in any direction. I even sunk bolts into the floor to tie down the front legs. It has almost zero movement. Unfortunately, I did not paint mine, maybe someday when it is warmer and I feel younger.

You might try doubling up on the table top to keep the plywood from flexing under the weight. I put 2 layers of 3/4" plywood on all my benches and they are solid as a rock. Oh, I also have the mounting plate under my setup as well. Here's a pic.

The base plate that Beumont Metal Works offers for the KMG is really nice, and should help you "move" your KMG set-up wherever you choose. It already has mounting holes for a motor base. Kind of plug-and-play.

I added an adjustable motor base to mine.

Use a heavier table. More mass, less vibrations.

My setup has a tabletop that is 3/4" thick steel plate, with 2" square section legs. :)
