if given a choice on a fixed blade as a user?

permanent scales that are epoxied and pinned or bolted on?

or

scales that are able to be switched out at random according to conditions or attitude of the day?

personally i like permanent. also, if absolutely nesasarry any scale can be removed w/ yer grinder and belts.

Both styles work but the removable scales will require more maintenance. The permanent scales are sealed with epoxy to prevent gunk from getting under the scales and causing corrosion. With removable scales you will need to remove the scales, clean and oil to prevent that from happening.

I have Esse's and others that have the bolted on scales. I had issues with them getting loose over time and Loc-tite was put on all of them and reassembled. Good so far , but I would of been upset about it had they loosened while I'm on a woods trip and I have no hex driver and now have a compromised knife.
I much prefer a properly made knife with permanent fasteners ,ie corby bolts or rivets of some sort.

Almost every knife I have with threaded fasteners had been put on with insufficient torque or lack of locking agent. That includes all my Beckers and most of my Esses.

my gso6 above i used epoxy/loveless bolts. it never moves.

That looks like an awesome knife

I like permanent fastening systems way better. No moving parts to come undone.
Epoxy also seals the joint from water creeping under the scales .
