G'day Dutchy....not to deflate your balloon mate but I have personally stood in your knife playroom <as you know> surrounded by veritably hundreds of your luveerrlllyyy collectable knives and simply oggled!...and I know for a fact you have not even convinced your loving wife "why we collect knives"...nor have you managed to "want them to accept it"......touche'......how can one tell a non believer what it is like to behold and hold say a WW11 clasp knife that has been carried on active service and lovingly maintained by its custodian because they were issued to the Military for a purpose and unless it remained functional when needed it may well have dire results for the carrier...."if only those knives could talk and tell us there story's..they cant.. so we have to research the history of their being and learn tons more historical fact in the process"....this is the beginning of accepting why we collect.....<trust you dont get the rolling pin round your ears when she sees my post mate!! as I dont think she really knows how many knives you have collected>.heaven forbid if she ever sells them at the prices you told her you paid for them in the first place.........Hoo Roo

Here we had a serious discussion about an important topic. And now we have one member enter to turn in into a personal attack. There is no excuse for this, not in a technical discussion; not even for a poorly phrased joke.

Please let this troll die unanswered.

I am sorry if my posts were wrong in some way Esav - I found this to be a good thread that has changed my way of thinking alot about how to represent myself as a collector. I am confused. For what its worth I hope I am not banned - I really like this place and would be mortified to be considered a troll :S. I am a bit worried.

Armalite Native, it was Larry303 I was writing about. You and I posted at about the same time.

Phew thanks for clearing that up. I really do find this thread really good. Its not often that a forum changes my way of thinking.

G'day Armalite, You can be forgiven mate for not knowing who had been offensive as I also did not realiaze I had offended my close mate Dutchy..tis I who is the "Troll who should die"........gee thats not the least bit offensive is it.. thanks mate....after over 1000 posts over some 5 years its certainly been interesting and it looks like I'm off to the Bermuda Triangle for good....the only casualty of course is Americans having little idea how Australians actually do treat each other with respect and true mateship with a little dry humour thrown in...if any Aussie can read any disrespect in my posting to Dutchy can they please let me know?...Hoo Roo

Sorry Esav who is the Troll ? I take offense just reading it .With big letters that shout out . TROLL DIE
I know you have a job to do and we respect that but we are all mates here I can tell Dutchy, Larry and heaps of other where to go and what to do as it is part of our Australian Culture and mateship .
TROLL Die is FKDED in my book and I take offense to it being a Australian .
Was just haveing a read through our district forum where I send over 200 a week to and recommend via automated email from my store .
Was looking at gold membership when my wifes bankcard is fixed up but hey .
We are mates and United we Stand .

Bladeforums has a culture too and we take the trouble to put it in the FAQ. Some kinds of insults don't play well here. They are too easily misunderstood.

"Troll" didn't refer to the person but to the act of trolling. I don't toss off comments telling people to drop dead.

Thankyou Esav Troll over here is the worst of worst you can call any human being .
And we are a very caring multi-cultural nation.

Thanks Armalite and Jamo, I would never, and have never dumped on another Australian Collector....I guess we're not full of our own self importance and dont take ourselves too seriously, and I do not believe I have offended any Australian Collector on this site with that Dutchy posting.....so I will be apologising to no-one except Dutchy if requested.....Hoo Roo

Hi Esav

I would just like to let you know that I was not offended in any way by Larry303's comments.

I think a problem arises here because other cultures have a problem understanding Australian humour. Many Americans seem confused by Australian humour.

Its quite normal for most Aussies to take the piss out of each other! (I think you guys might say take the Mickey).

Look at this way. We'll use the word Bastard. Now I believe that in the US it is a serious insult to call someone a Bastard in any circumstance.

Well over here, we use the word differently, you can call your best mate (friend) a bastard, he can be a lucky bastard, a dumb bastard, a smart bastard or any other sort of bastard the occasion demands. But if he's not your mate and you call him a bastard, well thats different!

Well, that silly bastard Larry happens to be my mate, and yeah, he does shoot off at the mouth, he probably confuses people with some of what he says as well. But he is passionate about his knife collecting, he doesn't suffer fools readily, which causes his anger to rise on occasions and I think he probably writes when angry and not when calm. Believe me, we have plenty to get angry about with self serving politicians and meglomaniac public servants at times. He also doesn't mind helping other collectors. I would hate to see him face any restriction because of his misunderstood humour.

Now, I am going to get off here and send him an email straight away telling him what a silly bastard he is and that he deserves a good kick in the bum for causing all this trouble.

Regards Dutchy

Thanks Dutchy,.....the Drop Bear wont have to worry about me posting on here again....you should all toe the American line when posting...boring and confusing but politically correct..I'm also a member of Laventrix and I'll head over there.....Hoo Roo

Larry, I am hoping that you are kidding here. I personally would hate to lose one of the world's best collectors of all things Schrade and beyond, and the contributions of a longtime mate. Besides, I am still waiting for some nuggets to fill my roo nutsack.

I hope so as well Codge UL you can

wherever he likes.
United we stand UL .

If ESAV has upset you so much I do hope or demand he apologise to you.

Or you two come to a agreement at sort for the benefit of this Forum .

I know this is a Australian Asian section on Bladeforums where we talk together freely as we on a whole limit our communication skills throughout the rest of the worldwide bladeforums so as not to offend anyone by accident due to our Australian sense of humour and mateship.

If you go we may as well tell Bladeforums to close the Australian forum here .

I would have to stop my positive recriutment as well so as not to be a hypocrite.:thumbdn::(

I don't know all of you so well yet - but I hope no one leaves :(. I am glad they give us a section to post in.

I hope we can talk you around Larry - you sound like a good guy.

Have a COOKIE and don't worry about it UL this doen't look like you at all .
Did some American Troll research .

I finally found this thread and think us US folks need a Aussie dictionary and to lighten up a bit. Jamo, Larry and Dutchy would sure make a great teachers in the art of Aussie ranking. A US term meaning to tease the crap out of someone just for a laugh, like "taking the piss or Mickey out of someone", a term Ive never heard.
I think I will save this link for future visits

G'day Larry

Finally a Yank that understands us! Maybe we should collaborate and write "The American Guide ot Australian English and Humour" I am sure we would all have some good laughs. A good winter project around a roaring fire fire with lots of beer and snacks. Your place or mine? Pity we are so far apart.

I am sure EB means well. I just think he is out of his depth with Aussie humour. I could pass some smart arse comments here, but I fear my attempt at humour might mortally offend EB. And thats not my intent or that of any of the Aussies here.

Welcome to the mad house.

Dutchy

"Aussie humour." Or having fun seeing how close to Sassin' the Mods you can get without adverse effect.

There are many Australians on Bladeforums. Some may not even spend much time on this forum or even have much of a sense of (Aussie) humour. Some use courtesy instead.

I didn't come here for laughs, I came to see about a reported violation of the rules. I handled it as calmly as possible, without applying the Warning/Infraction system.

I don't think you all have much of a sense of humour at all. I think you're just very thin-skinned.

Happy birthday, Larry. "Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional."
