Do not think you can visit the I want to buy forum with a standard membership, or the items for sale forum with a standard membership.

Yes you can, you just don't have permission to view any threads there other than ones that you yourself have started. You don't have to be a paying member to buy knives in the exchange.

I posted a wtb there not long after I first joined bfc and I checked it frequently over the next several days. I just couldn't figure out why mine was the only thread in there! Took me a little while to figure out what was going on.

Not a good idea to open a new thread in WTB. Click on the triangle in the lower left of the post and ask for a move by the moderators. Starting a new thread means two threads to follow for answers and leaves one of them in the wrong forum anyway.
