Removing a Microtech thumbstud

How do I take those thumbstuds off a Microtech SOCOM manual action. Boil it and pull them off with padded pliers?

I seem to recall that they are Loc-Tited on. You could apply some spot heat by means of a soldering iron and just protect the metal surfaces with some leather or something similar.
