Hi BladeForums members:
I just joined the forum and have a few questions about a knife that I've inherited, an Anton Wingen "Othello" hunting knife with stag handle.
The knife is in fairly good shape, but the blade has been stained somehow. It looks as if somebody cut a piece of fruit with it and never washed the citric acid off. (I was going to post pictures, but I'm apparently not allowed.)
My question is, how do I remove those stains without damaging the blade? I've tried baking soda and vinegar without any luck. My housemate suggests silver polish, but I think that might be too abrasive.
Also, what kind of blade would a knife like this have? Stainless steel? Carbon steel? (It was made in Solingen, Germany, if that helps.)
Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
P.S. I tried using the Search function for answers to my questions, but with no luck. I'm sure these have been discussed already, but I hope you won't mind a newbie asking again.
