Anyone have a suggestion on how I can remove the black coating on a ColdSteel OSS? Will any varnish removers or strippers even touch this coating? Thanks.

Remove it with sandpaper, (wet/dry) Start with 180, it will take about a half hour. Chemical strippers will probably remove the powdercoat but the blade underneath will look like crud. They don't do much finish work on a blade they are just going to put thick paint on. You will probably find deep grinding scratches in the hollow grinds. So you are going to have to hand rub the blade anyway.

Are you planing on removing the handle? Because Chemical strippers will probably go through that rubber handle faster than Michael Moore can go through a bucket of extra crispy and a two litre of Faygo.

I've taken the powdercoat off of cold steel blades a few times. It's pretty easy. You could even remove it with a razor blade on the flat areas. Use a hair dryer to warm it a little.

The best thing I found for my CS fillet knife was flaking off the coating with a spoon. It was easier and faster than sandpaper for me. Just apply pressure at an angle and chunks will flake right off.
