Removing Label on Clip?

Hey Folks.

Long time Fan of all the posts here, thanks for the invaluable info over the years.

I'm new here so please bear with me.
I recently acquired a CRKT with a deep cover clip, but being Mall Ninja as this piece is, the deep cover clip has CRKT pasted on the blavk clip. Which makes no sense to me why they would put it in White lettering if it's supposed to be "deep cover"....regardless. My question is, what would be the best method to remove the White CRKT lettering without removing the black coating on the clip?

Fingernail polish remover, sandpaper, unicorn tears......?

Thanks in advance.

Is it painted or are the letters etched? If etched, use cold blue liquid with a q-tip and fill them in. They will disappear into the surface and be only faintly visible at a certain angle.

If painted, I would try acetone but be prepared to lose any other coating that's on it. Then you may be using cold blue on the whole thing.

Most clips are stainless steel so I don't think cold blue would work that well on it at least from my experience trying to cold blue stainless... :foot::rolleyes:

A strip of black grip tape would fix that lettering issue asap. ;):D

Or, sand it off and refinish as you like.

Polish the clip and heat it up on a stove, and throw it in some oil... you should get a nice dark colored clip ;)

I would just paint it black. Give it a couple of coats, cover it with matt varnish. It should hold up for a good while, and when it begins to flake just paint it again. It should only take a few minutes.

Well. Its definitely Painted on because I can feel the raised lettering. Acetone doesn't work for sure. Tried the Q-tip method as suggested. Nothing happened. Whatever the Paint on both the Clip and Letters..its not even budging. Looks great after the acetone.
I may try the Paint or the Black grip tape, or might use hockey tape instead.

I agree that does look pretty out of place. I'd just repaint the whole clip. If you really wanted something to resist wear you could check out some of the spray coatings that brownells offer. Repainting it would probably look a lot more professional when its all said and done. The only other option I could think of for removing the lettering would be to sand/grind it off, but that would also remove/damage the black finish.

Im going to remove it tomm and try PlastiDip.
I have some left over from a Helmet Project...Ill see if that will work. Curious as to see if the PlastiDip will be able to survive the in and out of the knife clip. Im not too worried about the inside if that comes off...more worried if the outside will wear off, wear the CRKT logo is.
