Removing scales for a Case XX

Exactly how hard is it?

I have a little rust between the liners (stainless knife) and would like to get it cleaned up.

Also this is a Trapper model if it matters but is there any way short of grinding to get more of a clip point on the knife (like the slimline model)?

A lot of times I use for tasks where a sharp point is needed but hate carrying two knives. I wonder why Case doesn't produce a model with more of a clip point blade.
 
If this is a trapper model (6254 SS?), there's no easy way to remove & re-install the scales, without some significant knifemaking/knife repair skills. The scales are pinned on (likely glued/epoxied too).

Also, I'm a little perplexed about the rust on the 'stainless knife'? What is the pattern number on the blade tang? Assuming a trapper with jigged bone/wood scales, and depending on the vintage, it'll likely be '6254 SS' (stainless model), '6254' or '6254 CV'. The latter two are both non-stainless, for the blades anyway, and possibly the springs on the older models.

This really wants to be in the Maintenance Forum. David, as well as others who might have input on this question, frequent that forum, also.
 
I would expect boiling knife in a water for 15-30 minutes do it much easier for you. I did it with fixed blade knife: it worked like charm.
