removing the handle from a buck 184

come on all you seasoned knife guru's i am pretty sure that the handle on a buckmaster 184 can be removed, only problem is i lack the knowledge of the secret to accomplish the task. help me out here what is the trick? to removing the handle in one piece?
 
The 184 blade has a very short tang that is threaded. The threaded portion of the tang goes through the crossguard and into the grip. A nut is then threaded onto the tang through the hollow grip. The nut and tang are then encased in epoxy. To remove the grip from the tang you must remove the epoxy. I have never done this but from what Joe Houser has told me in the past this is not very easy.
 
Amen to that! I am sure there is an easier way but the methods I have used were painfully dificult. I used an old fillet blade and painstakingly chipped at the glob of epoxy. It takes a very long time with that method.
You could speed it up with a long drill bit. Drill out some of the glue and then you could chip it away faster. There isnt a lot of room between the nut and the inside wall of the handle though so you would have to use a small diameter drill.
I have seen a few handles that accidentally got a double shot of glue. Personally I would pass on one like that, what a headache!
I hope this helps, maybe someone knows of a solvent that dissolves epoxy?
 
i think i have found a product that will dissolve the hardened epoxy its called attack glue dissolver it is used for dissolving cured epoxy and polyester resins. i have e-mailed the company to ask them some questions before i go ahead and purchase the product.. like will it hurt the metal, how long does it take to dissolve, is there any products that it is not safe to use on. questions like that i just want to make sure it will not attack the metal

Please post a pic of the pommel so we can all see... :) I'm a hardware guy; I'd do the drill first...if you drill all the way up to the nut, you may be able to twist the tang out without too much more trouble...unless it's flat... :( In which case, I'd drill the nut in two places and get out the BMFH and a long thin punch... :p
