I'm a slob. Some of my chos are like my navel; full of lint. :(

I was looking at the chos to one of my khuks. It has some car wax in it. So, I guess it's more like my ear.

too many impurities...
As for the wax, Bruise is the only one who has volunteered he has enough of it to coat an entire blade, let along a collection of khuks. Most older forumite members are secretive about wax production.

I've found while treating a horn handle with ear wax it may look like hooflex, but does not smell the same.

But wait, all my pipe collecting buddies swear by nose oil for keeping the wood bowls in good shape. Should be perfect for wood khuk handles.

And though not a blade or horn treatment,
let us not forget 'toe jam' as a fine
replacement for laha in mounting the handles.

I thought toe jam was to be rubbed on the edge of the blade to insure death to any attacker?

What exactly is toe jam? I've never had the condition. Perhaps this is the downside to washing one's feet.

Toe jam is the sour smelling stuff, made of old skin, dirt, sweat, and shoe odor under the nails of the toe.

I believe smegma (sic?) is a similar substance found under the foreskin of an uncircumcized male who does not bath often.

edit; thinking of toe jam...the name. Sounds like American slang. I wonder what the British or French call it?
