Renaissance Wax for wood inlay 21

I've used it on my william henrys for years, great stuff. use it on my mnandis also. small can lasts forever....

I haven't used it yet either. When I was researching how to store my mammoth Mnandi, I called CRK for their suggestions and they told me about renaissance wax. I'll have to try it, sounds like some good stuff.

Do you guys just rub it into the wood....??? I will have to get some.

Yes ... just rub it on .... A VERY THIN COATING. It drys very quickly. Then buff it off with a soft cloth. I usually use microfiber. It is also very good a minimizing fingerprints. Use it on my LionSteel TS1 polished gold anodized handle. It is a fingerprint magnet. The RenWax does a good job of minimizing those fingerprints.

Ren Wax is fine stuff but you cab accomplish the same with any auto wax or even Johnston's floor wax was a favorite with the older makers when I started knife making around 20 years ago.

All of these are mostly Carnauba, Paraffin & Bee's wax with trace amounts of other stuff.

People have used Bee's wax on furniture for a thousand years. I use the auto wax, Ren or floor wax on the steel of my knives as well.

Sweet... Gonna have to get some as I have several Sebenza with inlays. Anything to help protect them I am all for.

how are you enjoying the elder burl

I am sorry I did not reply sooner to you. My wife picked it up Friday at the post office and I was out of town until Monday. It is very nice and thanks for the good transaction. I will post a positive feedback.

I ordered some of the wax. I am anxious to try it out. This along with the fluorinated grease should help keep the CRK in great shape!

Post up some before and after pics if you could.
Id like to try this on some of my wood inlays

So does the RenWax coat the inlays and give a thicker surface to protect it? Or just to shine?

Would it alter the look - of mammoth, bloodwood, etc. inlays? On Gabon Ebony I would imagine it wouldn't have much visual impact.

It's a wax (though a microcrystalline wax). It does what most other waxes do. It's used to polish and protect and best used in thin layers. It doesn't increase the thickness of the surface. It does give material a slight gloss. In addition to protecting wood/ivory and other handle surfaces, it also is great on metal, as it helps to prevent oxidation/corrosion.

I just ordered some Renaissance to treat the mammoth on my Mnandis.

Can I ask the experts some questions?: How often do you treat the mammoth ivory? If I do use it, is the ivory protected enough that it is ok to carry the knife in a pocket (I think about the post I read here where someone stained his mammoth blue from his jeans pocket!), do you also put the wax on the blade? (I notice that the shiny steel on the Mnandi is very revealing of fingerprints). Thanks...
