Renaissance Wax Question

I just got some Ren Wax and was looking for application tips. What's been said so far has been very helpful but I have more questions and this seems to be the most recent and general thread related to Ren Wax. Regarding the first application, there's usually some factory oil on the knives. Do you use dish soap to completely remove any oil, dry, then apply Ren Wax? Or do you just wipe off the factory oil and go straight to applying the Ren Wax?
I have been using Renwax for a while now and did some experimenting on pieces of scrap wood to see what worked the best. Dish soap diluted would be good, just make sure you let it dry completely, leaving it for about 2 days. I now use PH neutral leather cleaner, i already had some so did not have to buy any, but it really cleans the wood scales, and once you have it, can be used to give your wood scales a good clean when you think they need cleaning, and any leather you have. But in answer to your question, yes i would clean the covers before applying Renwax, just remember though apply light coats and let them dry, several light coats are better than one thicker application.

clean and dry blade first, then apply a light coating of Ren Wax and rub it in well. Works on leather also. Museums use it all the time. Grade stuff. I've used it and put away knives for years with no discoloration/ rust and no leather rot.
