Renaldi's soon to be built by Topp's knives (SAD!!!).

Trace Rinaldi - hmmmm? Now where I have I heard that name before....
Something about dolls and Striders, as I recall.

His knives seem nice enough.

(Note, I am intending to be mildly humorous, perhaps unsuccesfully.)

I tell you what this thread has done for me. I went to Mr Rinaldi's page and he makes some freakin' awesome blade!! I think that his price of $450 is very fair for a knife that size. I would get one from him if possible, because I would like it satin finished and from the makers hand, so to speak. But, there are Buck/striders, buck/mayo's, Benchmade makes a lot of knives of someone else's design and does a great job. I know that I have missed some, but you get the point. Let's not forget, the bottom line is getting a quality knife in the hands of as many people as possible. I for one think that it is great to see other people profiting in any way they can. I know that custom knives are a labor of love, but the light bill has to be paid too. Somebody has probably said all this before, but I just wanted to throw my two cents in. And Mr. Rinaldi, whenever you get caught up and are taking orders again, I'll be calling on you. I like several of you designs.

Yeah he's almost as bad as that injun he's friends with, that guy decided to go into semi-production of his own designs, how dare he :D :D :D

I agree -- I was pretty close to getting one o' them Rinaldi "machetes," but it was between getting the Armaggedon and another knife, and I let my girlfriend pick because I couldn't decide. She thought the Rinaldi wasn't very pretty. I think it's a gorgeous piece with beautiful curves (I didn't tell her that). The T.O.P.S. version just doesn't quite do it for me, so one day I'll go for the original. Nothing against T.O.P.S., I have some of their knives and like them quite a bit, but their version doesn't do anything for me.

The above post reminds me -- isn't Simonich doing a collaboration with T.O.P.S. too?

Read the post for what it said:
"While I don't hold anything against Topp's for a production knife I think that the original steel finished Armaggedon is the only Renaldi. It is a georgeous piece of metal when finished. All topps knive are black epoxy coated. I hope Trace Renaldi will still offer the original version of his knife not made by Topps."

Let me read it again a little louder for the slower people:
"I HOPE TRACE RINALDI WILL STILL OFFER THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF HIS KNIFE NOT MADE BY T0PS."

You seem to have left out the part where you accuse Trace of selling out. That is the part I take umbrage with, not the rest of what you posted.

It seams like every time we get used to somebody putting out a beautiful knife like Renaldi they sell out to some big production "stamp" manufacuter who slaps an ugly black epoxy coating on it and still tries to call it an original. [/B]
You really have no idea why everybody was a little upset HUH!! You can backpeddle or swing it in circles but this is the part that everybody heard with open ears. The part you left out of your explanation. Excuses are just lies that your trying your ass off to make everyone believe. Dit.

OK lets break it down for the literately challenged.
The phrase you quoted:
It seams like every time we get used to somebody putting out a beautiful knife like Renaldi they sell out to some big production "stamp" manufacuter who slaps an ugly black epoxy coating on it and still tries to call it an original.

The first part stated:
-It seems like every time we get used to "SOMEBODY" (KEY WORD HERE!)putting out a beautiful knife like Rinaldi
(USING RINALDI KNIFE AS EXAMPLE OF THE TYPE OF QUALITY KNIFE I WOULD HATE TO SEE GET LOST IN THE "MERGER MACHINE"-AGAIN I WOULD HATE TO SEE GET LOST. I NEVER SAID THAT IS WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I SAID I WOULD HATE TO SEE IT HAPPEN.)

- they sell out to some big production "stamp" manufacturer.
( I WAS TOLD BY A LOCAL KNIFE DEALER WHO CARRIES TOPS THAT THEY WHERE NOT HANDFORGED BUT STAMPED CUTOUTS FROM THE 1095 STEEL AND GROUND DOWN TO MEET SHAPE. SO I WAS ONLY GOING BY WHAT I WAS TOLD. AND ANYONE WHO PUTS OUT THIS MANY TYPES OF KNIVES IN TWO OR THREE DIFFERENT VERSIONS IS NOT WORKING OUT OF A SHOP IN HIS BACK YARD SO IN MY MIND THAT MAKES HIM A BIG PRODUCTION MANUFACTURER. )

-who slaps an ugly black epoxy coating on it
(I THINK IT IS AN UGLY BLACK COATING. THAT'S MY OPINION. IF YOU HAVE SEEN THE RINALDI ORIGINAL THEN YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. I HAVE READ OTHER POST THAT SAID THEY HATE THE LOOK OF THE TOPS AND WOULD RATHER WAIT FOR AN ORIGINAL. KEY WORD THERE ORIGINAL.)

- and still tries to call it an original.
(AT THE TIME I DID NOT REALIZE IN THEIR CATALOGUE THEY SHOWED THE TOP'S ARMAGEDDON AS BEING A RENALDI DESIGN NOT A RINALDI ORIGINAL, FOR THAT I APPOLOGIZE.)

this whole thing came about because I have recently started looking for my quality big blade. I was looking at either the Ferhman Final Judgement, The Rinaldi Armaggedon or the new version of the Busse Battle Misstress when it comes out. I was really stearing to either the Ferman or the Renaldi because I didn't like the new Busse handle. IMO the Rinaldi was a much more beautiful looking blade but I had been reading a lot about the eronomics ( I think that's right) of the blade to handle design on the Ferhman and how much more comfortable it was. Then I saw the Tops/Rinaldi article in Tacticle Knives at the local book store. At first it threw me back because all I could think was: "No! Don't tell me this guy is going to stop making his own knives! I HOPE NOT.". By this time I had already seen plenty of Tops Knives at local gun shows and had not been as impressed as I was by Rinaldi or Ferhman's original made.

So there you have it. End of story.
I am finished responding to this. If you can't understand an explanation as broken down as that then you never will.

Get over it already and get a life!
I've got better things to do with my time than to keep responding to this neverending cycle.
Enough said!
End of thread as far as I'm concerned.

The above post reminds me -- isn't Simonich doing a collaboration with T.O.P.S. too?

Mike Fuller and I like to say its a "Joint Adventure" as I am doind some of the work. :)

Yeah he's almost as bad as that injun he's friends with, that guy decided to go into semi-production of his own designs, how dare he
Does this mean i am knocking myself off?  :D

hunter301, you are the one not "getting it" You posted this same stuff on two different forums and got the same reaction on both forums. So what you are saying is the rest of the world is screwed up and your OK? :p

Believe me, I am not the least bit literately challenged. If you did not mean to infer that Trace was selling out, you didn't have to mention his name at all. It is very easy to make that point without inserting a makers name. Quit trying to cover your tracks, it doesn't wash; and quit trying to infer that people are too stupid to understand what you wrote, you are not hard to understand at all.

Edited to replace an incorrectly used word.

He is trying to cover his tracks in hope that when he calls to order that knife from Trace , that he will be able to order one.
My advice nunter: you want a Rinaldi ? watch the secondary market.
Trace certainly don't need customers like you packin his blades.

Rob , in between knocking yorself off  and making customs take time to throw back a few single malts for me !

And keep track of Trace in the pit , I have a feeling he may have another Vegas flashback :D

No clowns in Atlanta though ;)

Somehow, i thought having a knife show at a Circus was a bad idea!

I'm sure that between the whole bunch there will be plenty of clowning around! Shame I can't be there to enjoy the fun...:(

Hunter, I do still make the Armageddon... From the looks of my backlog, I will be making them for a good long time.. Maybe this got all out of control because nobody clarified that..

Trace, do you have an email sign up or something? That way we could know when the backlog is clear and can get it on the next round. I always wanted a knife from a "sell out":p Sorry, couldn't resist that. Keep on keeping on brother.

Hi Alpha.... Yes you can send me an E-mail titled "Mailing List" along with the knife or knives your interested in.. I will let you know if one becomes available, or when I can make it for you when I know myself..

Thanks for your support, I appreciate it..

Hey Trace, is that a Craftsman 2x42 belt sander you're standing behind on your web site? If so, I have the same one. My wife bought it for me for Christmas. It's the only one I have.

Hey guys, I think it is pretty easy to figure out that hunter didn't understand the idea of a production knife collaberation with a custom maker. That is why he started this thread, and that is why he accused Trace of selling out. Just to clarify this for hunter and anyone else who is confused. Just because a production company puts the name of a custom maker on a knife it does not mean that they are trying to pass it off as an original handmade blade from that maker. The custom maker is not usually discontinuing production of that model either. The concept of a factory/custom collaberation is that the factory gets a great design without all the research and development they would normally have to put into a new design. The maker gets more recogniton of his work. Both side make money. More high quality knives get into the consumers hands. Everybody wins.
