Rend Lake Camp (Very Photo Heavy)

Did a refinement job on my spoon. I got a Mora hook knife in, and wanted to use it. I also used my Vic Camper's small blade, ESEE 3, and Bush Monkey on it. Of course the main part was done with my BK2. All done with knives and sandpaper. The spoon part does have a small crack in it, so I put some Danish oil on it, as it won't be used. My first spoon carving.

Not perfect by any means, but I'm satisfied for my first attempt.

Spoon turned out excellent Warrior, lot better than my first attempt.

And great pictures all around, thanks for sharing!

That'll work Dubz. Pretty damn nice for a first, second or third attempt.

Great pics as always Warrior. I spend a ton of time at Rend Lake. I went to college there, and now I just live a few minutes away. I bike the trails there all year round and go noodling for catfish in the summer. It is just a great place to go relax and have some fun. Glad to see you guys enjoyed the trip!

Thanks for sharing, helps those of us stuck in the city get out vicariously!

Thanks guys, appreciated. I wanted to make the "bowl" part of the spoon closer to the edges, but with the hairline crack in it, I didn't attempt it. Looking forward to my next one. I brought back that cedar sapling. Thinking of making one for the wife out of it, to hang up in the kitchen. Perhaps I'll attempt a ladle.

My son used to live in Benton. That's why I'm familiar with the area. My ex still lives there.

Great pics. As usual you never fail to make some great threads. That spoon is awesome!! Good job!

I really need to get out in the wild soon. Inspiring thread. I've made a few spoons and my first one definatly didn't turn out that good. Partly because I used a hot coal to make the trough. A gouge would have been better for sure. Nice photo's as usual. Thanks for taking us along. I see you've scuffed the coating on that BK2...looking good ;)

Oh what the crap?! You wait until I make a super crappy looking spoon and then jazz yours up all pro style. War sir, war you have waged. SPOOOOOOOOOOON!

In all seriousness, sweet spoon. Looks pretty awesome. Too bad about the crack. I bet it would still work pretty good.

I love getting out. I need to do it more often. I prefer camping in the fall. I hate the hot weather. Yup, finally scuffed it. I'm gonna strip it anywhos, and get some wood scales for it, me thinks.

Thanks man. Looking forward to making some more. I may attempt a bowl at some point. The crack is just a hairline crack. But, since this is my first, I wanted to preserve it. I'm gonna try one out of cedar.
