I am an occasional seller under the name cro22 and others. I have experienced that there are some active Baldeforums.com participants that commit to buying an advertised knife and then fail to follow through with the purchase, or reneging at the last minute for the flimsiest of reasons. My only recourse is not to do business with the offending parties again. I am old-fashioned in that my word is my bond. The same is not true for some folks here at Bladeforums.com.

22, What you said has been on my mind for some time. In the last year, I have sold about 6 production knives(average cost: 150.00) and, in the majority of the deals, had long time , active forum members jack me around. I have had them hang me up for days with e-mails, after committing to purchase, and then back out. I have had them say they wanted a knife and never heard from them again. I have had them agree to purchase a knife and then, a day later' after I had posted " sale pending" e-mail and say they found another knife and wished me luck in selling mine. But the best one happened last month. Another individual posted in these forums that an individual had made a deal with him, but he hadn't heard from the guy, or seen any money, for about a month. He just wondered what other forum members thought of this. One of the first forum members who responded to this post said such conduct was rude, terrible, etc.. While he was commenting on someone elses poor conduct, HE had been hanging me out for 24 days with no payment, e-mail, etc. on a knife he had agreed to buy from me! Frankly, that's when I quit stopping in here at BF on a regular basis. Bruce

I completely understand what you are saying. There are those that like to respond to darn near every for sale post, and dont follow through on thier end. On the other hand, there are those rare occasions when somebody backs out due to a true unexpected situation beyond control. But, those that leave you hanging for weeks or months deserve to have a black mark next to thier name.

I have sold several knives on here, and every one of my deals has been super...prompt payment and friendly dealings.

I think you have just had a string of bad luck....because I know lots of forumites who give their word...and MEAN IT!!.

In other words, dont lump all the good guys in with a few bad apples. 99% of the folks here are very pleasant to trade with.

I had one myself just yesterday........I responded to a 'for sale/trade' post, worked a deal out with several e-mails, was real happy to have found this particular knife, e-mailed back to find out where to send my money, and after all this the seller informed me he changed his mind and if I didn't have a MT to trade then the deal was off! He went back in, edited his post and tough sh!t on my part................Maybe I should post this in W&C but I feel if the offer is made then the individual who started the whole process in the first place should at least honor their post!

Cro,

Maybe you'd like to take the time to explain "and others".

What does this mean? Why are we dealing with the same BFC member who uses multiple names? ...I'm sure you have your reasons...

Just curious,
Michael

I might not be popular with some here, but in all fairness I have never broken my word or said I will do something and not done that. I do have a personal code of honour.

I am sure there are dealers here who can confirm this. I do what I say and say what I do.

It is irritating to get an "I'll take it! Where do I send the money" then twenty minutes later get an "I'll have to pass on this knife." I guess it's even worse when you set up a deal and the guy leaves you hanging.

While this might be irritating, at least there is no money lost (but yes, I know that time is a valuable comodity). Anyway I recently had the "I'll take...oh changed my mind" kind of thing happen. Oh well!

I have had the same thing happen. The guy post I will take it or sends a email with and offer and you accept then replies he is not interested. What really kills you is when it takes him 2 or 3 days to reply. In the mean time you have other guys wanting the knife. I tell you what the first guy to paypal the money or send a money order gets the knife. I also have a long memory and the guys that do that next time I have something for sale. Their money is no good, I won't sell it to them. Just my 2cent rant.

Folks changing their minds is just part of doing business. Nothing new and nothing relegated to the realm of the net. I simply tell folks that want a knife but "will get back to me" that I will hold it a day or two. If I dont hear from them, I put it back on the shelf to sell to someone else. I feel there are worse things that can happen than someone telling you "I want it" , then never contacting you again. Aggrevating????sure...big deal???not really. JMO...ICBW md

You guys are lucky!

I get stuck with the stiffs who tell me that they are sending out the check 'tomorrow'.. 2 weeks later ... no check, no answer to emails!

I wish people were nice enough to AT LEAST let me know they had changed their minds!!

Anybody can register as a member in BF so I guess you can find all kinds of people here. I've been lucky so far and have only one dodgy deal to date.

As to pulling out of a deal, I can understand when somebody makes an impulse buy and later changes his mind. Not a pleasant thing I know, but it happens. For me, to avoid this, I try to think it out completely before I press the 'Send' key.

I've experienced confirming on a deal only to have somebody else offer me the same knife at a lower price. Could have taken it and saved some money but I'd like to think my word is worth a lot more than that.

Just my two cents

Bwahahaha!

Yous guys wanna know what really sucks? I'll tell ya...

Ya make a deal with a fellow forumite, and then ya strettttccchhh to send off two pristene Randall's and a M/O for $350 for two "mint" handmade knives to finish off a certain collection, and the knives come as less than advertised!

You reached far for this once in a lifetime opportunity, ya pinched those dimes close together, ya prayed, ya hoped, your heart raced, you fretted, ya worried, and when the package fiiiinally comes, you almost cry!

Yep, I'd say that's the other side of the coin....

Mel

BTW, I did what I was supposed to, I met my obligation, my word is good, but I'm almost sick from this....My first "bad" deal in over 250 knives deals..."Alas, such is life"
