Repair of failing rolling locks on the SIFU

You reap what you sow, bucko.

1. True or False: Did you spine whack your Sifus?

2. True or False: Did they fail before and after the spine whacks?

3. True or False: Did you send all of them back to REKAT for warranty repair?

4. True or False: Have you not consistantly harped on this subject on several occasions, despite the answer to #3 above?

As a consumer, it is your obligation to live up to your end of the bargain should you have problems with the knife. If you don't, then don't weep when you are called to task for not doing so.

Bob Brothers, Bob Taylor, and Christina @ REKAT have bent over backwards in efforts to satisfy their customers. I've witnessed several occasions where they've gone out of their way to make things right despite abuse to their products, like the guy who used his pocket hobbit to cut the locks out of car doors (and similar incidents).

It can't only go one way. If there are any shortcomings your situation, I'd have to say that you bear a good portion of the responsibility for them.

I've been using REKATs of one flavor or another, since the Rolling Locks had levers on 'em. I use a Carny Cub or Pioneer just about everyday, with never a problem with the locks, and I'm not gentle on anything. Like Spark, I've also known the people at REKAT to go out of their way to make a customer happy. When this subject first cropped up I'd wondered what was up with the knives not being sent in for repair. Someone else had said the knives where being resold, so I'm glad there wasn't that level of irresponsibility, but if you don't send them in when the offer is made, you can't bitch about it. I have enough confidence in my SIFUs, that I'll carry one of them when I don't pack a larger fixed blade.

Isn't whats wnating here whether they failed during the tests?

My issue is that if the knives failed to lock open before the spine whacking, then they should have been sent back immediately. If they failed to stay open after the spine whacking, then it can be said that they were broken by that action.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

well, dont mean to start a hissy fit, but mine failed w/out any spine whacking - 10 days/2 wks after i got it, the lock failed w/no warning/probs/etc prior to it failing - i guess its the one knife bob said failed w/out abuse, etc

if ya dont believe, fine, i know in my heart it did, and yes bob fixed it, but i still am out the shipping on a 2 wk old knife ($25 or so)

$$ no big deal, they did fix it

but, if no probs w/the sifu, why so many probs posted w/the locks on sifus??

i think the long /heavy blade just causes unusual wear on the lock, no carnies, etc i have heard of develop the prob

if no probs w/the lock, why did they discontinue, what bob said, was there most pop model?? some one ( i think a guy from knifeoutlet??) posted they were being discontinued becaus of lock probs - hey, his words not mine

have nothing against REKAT, god bless them, but i know i didnt abuse mine before it failed in any way, abuse as listed by bob or other forms..........sure, i inettia opened a t ime or 10 (maybe 20 times TOTAL)but didnt whack it, though i must admit, i have since w/no probs

i carried it, and it mighta cut an envelope or 2, hardly abuse

not a bad knife, just one, imho, ya better watch closely for ,lock up probs

we just cover this over/over/over - i suggest if ya like REKAT, buy 'em, imho they may not be in the knife biz long, so get while the getting is good ( i would still like a casrnie, maybe pocket hobbit)

if ya dont, buy a BM/MOD/strider/spydie/etc etc -

peace

Any lock that can be broken by a spine whack is a POS lock, if it can be called a lock at all. My Sifu passes the spine whack test, locks up solid every time, and I carry it every day.

Sigh, so much misinformation, so little time.

And yet every time it pops up, here you are screaming about how bad they are. Was it fixed or not?

How many of those posted are by you?

No question that the larger blade causes more problems for lock wear and tear - when comparing one blade to another that's 1.5 inches longer (IIRC), the torque forces generated on that final
inch are wayyyyy higher. There's a reason people use cheaterbars on wrenches - you have to use less force to accomplish the same result.

if no probs w/the lock, why did they discontinue, what bob said, was there most pop model?? some one ( i think a guy from knifeoutlet??) posted they were being discontinued becaus of lock probs - hey, his words not mine

Possibly because they have other things working.

There you go. Inertia opening, or "flick opening" can damage the stop pin of the knife, causing it to seat loosely, causing lock failure. You do this repeatedly and you've got a reciepe for failure.

we just cover this over/over/over - i suggest if ya like REKAT, buy 'em, imho they may not be in the knife biz long,

Oh, I have a feeling we'll be seeing their designs for a while.

well, my last word ever on REKAT (LOL) - they are just tooooo finicky for me, if ya like 'em, stock up, i heard they were going into the PC software biz..........
