Repair to a Seal(?) knife

Hi Ron. I have an older SOG knife that looks similar your Seal model. Mine though has a brass guard and a rubber handle with a satin finished blade. A while ago I had a brain-fart and thought I would shine the guard up on my buffer. Unfortunately the wheel got to close to the handle and chewed an ugly groove into it. I would like to take a crack at making a new handle myself. I am wondering though what the tang looks like. Would it be a fairly straightforward process for a relatively experienced maker?
