Repairing scissors

Sharpening scissors is easy and works providing the tension on the rivet is correct and the curve in each shear is adequate. But I am surprised to see the number of people - even on this site - who recommend not doing it yourself - that is, sending scissors off to a factory or an expert. The more I see this, the more I want to maintain and repair scissors, not merely sharpen them.

Can anyone help me with books, booklets, websites etc. which cover the full gammut of scissors maintenance and repair? This might also include manufacture, though I don't want to go there.
