i've got an old buck folder, looks lika a 110 but smaller, and all stainless w/black handle - got it in about '78 - anyway the front bolster(?) (pin which holds blade) is real loose - do ya think buck would fix it, if i send it in?? blade is real loose now, and tip also chipped off - if they wont no big deal got my $$ worth 10 yrs ago, but would like to fix if i can, and use it again - good little knife

Vet, email Joe Houser. They fix em for life. And they really stand behind their warranty.

I'd sure like to know more about this knife. If it just like you describe, I can't place it. What are the markings on the blade? Black and silver? Smaller than a 110? That leaves out the 112 and the 500 and 501. What could it be? Maybe a 500 with black micarta; I've never seen one. Check it out.

Vern

The knife is possibly Buck 112, first issue with black micarta?

No, not with all stainless,,,must be 300 series folder?

Contact Buck and send it for repair. I sent in a totally beat 500 several years ago and it was basically like new when they returned it! Great service!!

Are you sure the handle inlays are not burgandy micarta which has darkened over the years? I am unaware of black ever being used on the 500 series. Of course, it could have been rehandled aftermarket or by a rogue Buck employee on his own.

hi - shipped the knife to buck friday morning - hope they can help me out - as to the handles being black, if memory serves, and i have had it for 20+ yrs, they have always been black - the pin the blade pivots on loosened up on a hunting trip in about '79 ( i honestly dont remember what happened - if i dropped it, or what?)and once i got back, i stuck it in my gunsafe and it has sat there except for oiling the last 20 yrs - never thought about repairs - anyway will let all know what happens w/it - thanks again and TGIF

The first of the 500 series was the 501. It was called the Esquire then but later we got in trouble with that name and had to change it to the current Squire.

The first material was black micarta and the very first ones had the rocker pin exposesd. We had so much breakage with the thin little strip of handle material over the top of the rocker pin that we invented (for us anyway) the hidden rocker pin that would be used for the balance of the 500 line.

I am curious about the knife based on the description.

hi, thanks again for the info - if memory serves, the box it came in (long long gone of course) was marked esquire or squire - i knew it had something to do w/knights or the middle ages LOL but couldnt remeber, but that does sound right for sure - will take a few pics when it gets back, never thought my old buck would stir up interest - thanks again to all of you for your interest and information, i'll post when i get it back-

best wishes,

vet

oh and i found it interesting that cj buck mentioned problems w/the lock - the knife started to fail to lock soon after i bought it - i just used it as a non locking knife after that, used it for a long time like that - maybe mine was 1 of the first ones w/this problem - amzing - thanks again to all of you, and cj buck especially for the info.........
