I called buck and asked How much it would cost to get a replacement buck 110 blade for my titanium 560. They told me $10 but i had forgotten to ask if they will put a black blade (because my knife has a black handle) or if they will put s30v on it. Does any body know if they will and how much it costs?

you would do well to re-contact them and specify that your blade will need to be black...or contact Joe and ask him...also when shipping it in include a note with all pertinent info and/or concerns...such as if the knife has any sentimental value etc...

A black blade is possible because they had those just recently and may still have some. They used a bunch in some 110 buildouts. Getting an S30V blade is unlikely even though they have them. Why? Who knows, but that seems to be their policy. Maybe if it was a warranty issue and the knife originally came with an S30V blade.

From Joe Houser last year to a customer ticked off because they wouldn't replace his blade with an S30V blade:

I'm sorry your upset by this policy and believe me, if it was something that made a lot of sense, we would still be offering this service.
Several years back we experimented with this. If a customer sent in their 110 or 560, we would upgrade the blade steel for a price. There were so many issues that came up, that we finally had to scrap the idea. It did not work well and only made customers upset. We have been making the 110 for so many years, and there have been so many variations over the years, we just encountered too many problems. It was a myriad of little things that simply could not be overcome. We would end up sending knives back and forth across the country and to Canada. It was a headache for both us and especially for our customers.
Sorry we cant help you with that but I hope my explanation at least helps a little.

That's a very real possibility unless they used them all up when they made the buildouts. Hopefully, they hung on to some for just such an occasion as yours.

Another thing you might run into, if you didn't mention a black blade when you got the price of $10--a black blade is probably a little more expensive than the stock Satin blade.

A black coated, 420HC blade is an option when ordering a custom shoppe knife. I ordered this one a couple of months ago.

That's another option that I hadn't thought about and would also keep the knife looking like it's supposed to. I was thinking of them keeping the knife as close to original as possible by using one marked 460.

Hi archer,

I could be wrong.....but......If I remember correctly Buck will not repair a Ti 560 any more. Some folks were sending those to Leroy of RRR knives to have them repaired. You may just want to contact Joe H via email just to be sure. If they will do your 560 then you can ask about the black coated blade.

I just sent Joe an e-mail and asked him to look at this thread and give his input regarding what they will (or can) and will not do.

We actually do still have some of the 560 powder coated blades in warranty and can do the reblade with one of those. As suggested, make sure you include a note explaining what you want done. If you want, you can send it to my attention. Just put my name on the outside of the box and use Buck's address.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Joe. I have never got one of the 560's because of an old thread....back in an old 09 tread someone here said Buck would not be able to repair these any more. so I've looked at these knives. Now I just may need to go and find one:)

You won't regret it, in fact you may wish you had gotten one sooner :D

I have a 560 plain that is new in box... I just got this black 560 at a flea market for $15. Thanks Joe :). Can i send in another knife to get work done at the same time? (my vantage pro's liner lock is so far to the right that it almost goes off the blade)
