So no matter what I seem to pick up, the mini grip always gets the pocket time. I have no problem with this. Its one badass knife. But I want a new knife and I want it to compete with my mini grip. I like small blades, around 3 inches, and im looking for something under $160. I like simple designs and clean lines. I quite enjoy my 940, but I just dont carry it as much as the grip. If its out of the price range specify! Okay, fire away!

Get a pair of Cuscadi scales for your Mini-Grip, or PM Keyman. It will feel like a new knife, but it will still work like the Mini-Grip you love.

For a lot of us here, the next knife is the best knife. But if you've found something that you keep coming back to, it may be time to admit that your journey is complete.

I'm sure there's some Zen haiku that applies to this....

Edit: OR! Get another Mini-Grip, this time with the sheepsfoot blade. Or see if you can find one of the special edition M390(?) ones with the textured scales.

My recomendations are:
bench mini barrage
spyderco native 5
spyderco delica
Bob Lum "Encounter" - not very popular but great folder produced by seki cut

Sheepsfoot mini griptilian might be the way to go! And youre right; my newest knife seems to be my favorite for a few weeks, then I start picking up the mini grip again. I think I found the model I need multiples of!

Ive looked into Emersons and I quite like the look of the mini a100, going back to the simple clean lines.

Benchmade mini Presidio ultra is my mini grip replacement. It has a better handle shape and the hollow ground blade is an amazing slicer and the 440c steel is done exceptionally well by benchmade. there is also the option of adding a bone collector blade to the presidio handle

The sage 1 is clean and simple with great f and f and is robust but elegant. A great value in your price range.

I agree with the Benchmade mini barrage and the presidio. However I recommend the 586 mini barrage which nets you M390 steel as opposed to cpm 154 in the basic mini barrage. Still a good steel but the aluminum bolsters give it a smoother and sleeker design and appearance. I also like the regular mini presidio over the ultra. It gives you the cpm 154 steel as opposed to the 440c used in the ultra. Other than that they are pretty much the same. The regular has an aluminum handle as opposed to the Noryl GTX used on the ultra. Any of these can be had for under $140.

I'm in your same situation . I usually edc 2 knives a month no matter what I get I end up with a mini . I have 4 mini 2 Ritter and 2 regular . The native 5 is the only one right now that I will say can compete for pocket time . I do have a techno that I'm looking to edc in the month OCT . I will also say the sage 2 will be a good choice . I don't have that many benchmade but I'm looking for a Volli that looks like a sweet knife .

Im looking at the bm sequel as well. I really like the look of the mini grip sheepsfoot with a yellow handle and satin blade. Idk. Ill have to do some searching! And the knife im looking for doesnt HAVE to be made in the good 'ol USA, but id like for it to be. I consider my self a patriotic consumer! Haha. I really like benchmade and been looking through their blue class quite a bit. Any under rated blades out there that dont get much attention that deserve a shout?

I too love my mini-grip. I recently stumbled across the Benchmade Sequel 707.
Its a little more "elegant" version with aluminum scales and G10 inserts. Similar size ,weight and profile as the mini.
Can be found for about $110.

Edit: I just realized you mentioned sequel in the post above. I've only had it less than a week, but so far, I find it to be a sleeker/sexier version of the mini.

I have just been going through the same question; what to replace a well-loved mini-grip? I wanted something a bit bigger and a bit classier, and strongly considered buying custom scales as mentioned. I finally settled on the BM Torrent, because it fit the criteria, and I wanted to try something with a different design philosophy but with the same dependable quality. I am very happy with it except for one thing; the bottom corners are definitely less ergonomic than the mini-g, a fact I never noticed until now. Reflecting on this, I now realize that the other models I considered shared the same rounded end, and which you might be interested in: Fallkniven P3G, and the Mcusta basic.

The sage 1 is clean and simple with great f and f and is robust but elegant. A great value in your price range.
The mini grip (555 HG) is without a doubt my favorite/most carried knife and my Sage1 is the only knife that even has a chance against it. Sage 1 or 2 would be my recommendation, also the sage 3 if you like the "bolt action" (axis style) lock.

Good suggestions so far. You might also look at a mini-Bone collector. It combines a Presidio-style frame with G10 scales, a D2 spear point blade, opening hole, and an AXIS lock.

For a competing price range Ialways looked at the Native 5 and Manix 2 by Spyderco. The Manix might be a little big for what you are looking for, but it is so light weight and has a similar lock.
