Replacement Parts?

Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone has a source for replacement parts for Cold Steel knives. Specifically, the thumb-studs and maybe the pocket-clip. I recently traded into a Broken Skull and I like the knife but the pocket-clip is VERY tight. I can live with that by trying to bend it, but for now, I just took it off.

What really bothered me is the thumb-stud. I cant stand the unequal sides, and I buggered it up trying to get it off to change it for left side carry. Every cold steel that I have had to switch has been damaged (the slot) trying to break it loose. I wish they would just use the equal length studs like on the Voyager series for all their knives. Better yet, why don't they use the thumb-plate more often.

Anyway, I tried contacting them from the website to purchase replacement studs and have gotten no response back. I am wondering if anyone has found a good replacement set of thumb-studs (equal length and maybe a tad bigger) for Cold Steel folders. I am also wondering if anyone makes some better pocket-clips that aren't so damn tight. Baring that, can anyone point me to a place on their site where you can purchase parts? Maybe I just didn't go to the correct location when I looked before.

I really like the BS, but it is not making it into the rotation like it is right now.

Thanks.

Eeeeeyah.
Bit of a sore spot for me.
Like pulling teeth to get parts out of Cold Steel. With one difference . . . after all the pain and work your mouth will be better. With the parts you will just be ignored, lied to and frustrated.

I find the best and easiest way to get a part for your knife is to order a new knife, take the part off that you need and throw the rest away. Not really viable but there it is.

Oh, there is one other way to get parts. Buy a lathe and turn the thumb studs, get appropriate sized metal (steel or titanium etc.) and bend your own pocket clips.

People used to get mad at me for saying there is no Santa Clause . . . sorry I can't help keep the magic alive for you.

I still really like my Cold Steel knives and will buy more but . . .

PS: my thumb stud maker. Every knife nut should have one. ;)

Don't have a clue what you guys could possibly do to your knives that requires all these parts. Prolly need a garage full of car parts as well. why don't they use the thumb-plate more often? Cause they suck...I hate'em!! LOL

BTW....I HATE....never mind.

Always wondered about the unequal sides myself...seems like a no-brainer to use a slightly longer one and have it be symmetrical. Anyway, wouldn't it be easier to just screw it in/out to where you need it, rather than taking it completely off to switch it? They are very tight (which they need to be), and I mangled the slot on one myself, but then found a screwdriver that fit much better which solved the problem.

Always use a hollow ground slot driver with a tight fit, and you'll have far less problems with interference fit thumb studs.

I never thought of trying that. I always assumed it needed to be fully screwed in to fit properly.

Wise words indeed, but even if I was able to get it off without issue it would still bother me. I just prefer the look of the equal length studs. I will probably try and buy a set if it's not too much trouble.

I've completely messed up the Thumbstuds on my Limited Ed. Recon Tanto trying to unscrew them.
Not with vise grips, not with piers, not with different sized screwdrivers. They're just stuck there, they won't spin for nothing.

I am really bugged, all I achieved was completely destroying the aesthetics of a $150 knife to leave it exactly as it was, just uglier

:thumbdn:

I always use channel locks or similar with tape on the teeth for protection to unscrew the stud.

Well, I sent in a parts request via the link above yesterday. Will see how long it takes to get something back. I will keep you all posted.

Well, I was a bit premature as I just got an email from them this evening. They asked me a question about the size Voyager I had. I must not have been very clear in my request or perhaps they didn't get to see my explanation, so I told them that I want equal length Voyager studs that would fit on the Broken Skull. On second though, I don't know if this reply is from the original request back at the beginning of the month or the second request that I sent in at the beginning of this thread. I will update this thread as things progress.

ETA: Got a follow-up email today (7/26/16) requesting my address.

Thanks for the link, I'm going to give it a shot.

I called CS months ago to ask if I could purchase a Rajah II thumb plate (bought it on the exchange as is). The guy said it was no problem, and that they would send me one free of charge. Then..... crickets.

Well, I received a confirmation email the same day... Haven't heard a peep since.
