I have a couple knives that are decent blades but uncomfortable handles. anyone want to put new handles on?

Before you suggest I do it myself ( I would love to) I have a back injury so cannot do workbench type stuff. One hour of it and I'm in bed for 2 days.

One knife I would like nice, the other cheap. The cheap one, I was wondering about homemade micarta and putting the tang in the middle to start with, I would like the handle taller then the tang, so thinking it would be one piece-enough to not need rivets, when it's set up just grind it down to a comfortable grip. good idea?

Feel free to PM or e-mail me.

Is this that uninteresting to the guys with the skills and tools, Or should I have it in a different category?

Many of the makers here prefer to not work on other's knives, which may be why there are no responses so far. I've asked about insetting the micarta into the handle and then forming in the past, and the overall consensus was that it was too hard to get the front of the handle finished to an acceptable level. As well- homemade Micarta is not cheap, and is very labor intensive. You may want to look at Mule team threads in the Spyderco forum to find those who have put scales on one. Good luck.

Most makers have limited time and we really want to do something creative. Putting common materials on a blade just does not excite me and not a good use of my limited time. There are some repair and rehandle guys around that do some pretty amazing stuff. May want to look around in some of the show and tell threads for non-custom knives and see if you can discuss your needs with them.

Not sure of the cost of the spyderco, but it really doesn't make much sense to put a 40$ piece of wood on a 39$ knife....Kinda like polishing a turd:D
Not that there is anything wrong with the Knives of Alaska knives, I have several and they are actually pretty nice. A nice piece of stabilized wood, even if you do it yourself will run you between 30-40 bucks. With labor you would be looking at quite a bit more money for your rehandle job than the knives are worth.

If you ask around in Maintenance and Tinkering, there are a bunch of people who specifically do Mule finishing.
