I just wanted to put in a quick report from Blade before I get back to work. I may add to this later.

I hit Blade just as it was opening to the general public (non-VIP) at 2:00 and made a beeline for the Busse/ Scrapyard/ Swamp Rat tables. There were already a ton of people there standing around, talking and having a good time. There were tons of awesome Scrapyard and Swamp Rat knives on the table ready to go and I was sorely tempted, but the Busse release was @ 2:30 and I had to be strong.

I stood around for a 1/2 hour talking to the other pork-rinds, piglets, hogs and Busse staff and everyone was really cool. I met Eric Isaacson, Porkgunner, Amy-O, R30VTOM (I hope I got that right), Thatmguy, and several other very cool cats, including the Boss Hog himself. I can't remember all the names of the folks I met but everyone was very friendly, even as the crowd lining up to the trough started really packing up. It was hot as hell in there! I got there relatively early so I was up front, but down on the end. I was hoping to score an Active Duty.

At 2:28 and 30 seconds Jerry announced "1 minute 30 seconds!" and everyone got very excited. What would Jerry pull from under the table? The first knife was an Active Duty! "I'll take it!" I yelled, hopping up and down, along with most of the other folks in the crowd. Jerry sees me and and smiles, walks over, handing me the knife. I was first to score! After that it was kind of a blur, I was so psyched to have scored. Amy-O came over and let me pay her and I got out of the way for the other pigs to get their shot.
It was the most fun I've ever had buying a knife.

I wandered around Blade and it was awesome, so many knives from so many different makers. There were a couple of things I was interested in but I resisted. I found a pretty cool sheath for my awesome new Active Duty 2007 Special Edition and scored it for only $14 bucks! No waiting! No extended wear on my factory tactical cardboard sheath! I'm a happy little pork rind.

I may go back tomorrow and pick up the new Scrapyard (I can't remember the name but it's around a 5" blade and awesome). Blade was a blast! I couldn't stay very long because I had to come back to work (where I am now, working very hard as you can see).

A big shout and hearty "Thanks" to all of the Busse folks and fans who made my first trip to Blade (and the real vs. virtual trough) a fun and memorable experience.

All the best,

Andy

Like a total moron I left my camera in the car. :o I brought it with me but forgot to bring it into the show. I had the INFI fever so bad I could hardly drive on my way there. I saw a lot of people taking pictures at the trough, though, I imagine they'll find their way on here soon enough. If I go back tomorrow I'll make sure to put the camera around my neck before I get in the car.

Thanks for the update. Any idea of what else got offered early on before you left?

I'll say it again. I wish I was there! That's a great story. I hope to be first in line next year. I'm glad to hear that you OINKED louder and faster than the rest. They're probably still hazy from the boozing last night:D .

How much did you pay for the AD?

The AD was $237. With tax it came to $251. I got out of Blade pretty cheaply. If Jerry had pulled out the BOLO FBM VARIANT when I scored, my wallet would be a lot lighter!

As for what else was offered, I think it was a mixed bag, rather than just all AD's. I heard about the Bolo FBM (which I would have been all over), several Leaner Meaners, Badgers and I think Mistresses. Apparently the customs all sold before they even hit the table at the VIP 12:30 release, snapped up by all thee real hogs. Oh, and I got to see Amy-O's awesome knife too. Jerry held it and said "One dollar and fourteen cents!" resulting in a simultaneous "I'll take it" from the entire crowd. Amy looked like she was going to cry (or smack Jerry). That's one sweet knife. The sheath she has it in is amazing.

That's a sweet deal. Can you give a description of the blade (color, handle material, handle color, variant or not). Thanks. And obviously post pics when you can.

The AD is just like in the pics Jerry posted earlier. Blade is 3.5" long, satin finished, just over 1/8" thick. The scales are standard green/black G10 with the nickel (silver) rivets. It has the Busse Combat logo deeply etched on one side and "2007 Special Edition" on the other. The scales are perfect- I like it much better than the green linen on my mistress. Everything is perfect about the knife except the edge grind is a tiny bit uneven on one side. It's relatively sharp, it shaves, but needs a bit of sharpening. I'm going to beat on it hard this weekend, it's going to be a user for sure. (there are no queens in my safe!) It feels like it was made for my hand, a perfect EDC knife for me. I may have to get a Kydex carry rig for it eventually, but for now I'll keep it in the leather sheath I got for it and carry it in my briefcase.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jerry said that all of the 2007 Special Editions where going to be double cut and not satin?

Is it this one>

In either case it's amazing and at $250 it brought a tear to my eye :D

Judging by the fogo pics. Unless he plays dirty KnifeAddictAK is going to have a hard time at the trough against Dave Brown, his brother, and Jaxx :p .

Oops. I guess I can't tell the difference between double cut and satin. If Jerry says it's double cut then I'm sure that's what it is. On any other knife I would say it's a satin finish. Looking at the pattern on the scales in the pic above I'd say there's a good chance that it is my exact knife. Looks identical, and that's a better image than I could take of it.
It's a keeper.

Congrats on your score... and thanks for the excellent write up!!!

I can really feel the excitement at the trough... makes me feel like a kid who cant see over the counter... Anybody have some show pics???

.

Great score. Smart move yelling "I'll take it" as soon as Jerry brings it out, You have the makings of a real Hog. Congrats and great reporting btw.
