I just wanted to put in a quick report from Blade before I get back to work. I may add to this later.
I hit Blade just as it was opening to the general public (non-VIP) at 2:00 and made a beeline for the Busse/ Scrapyard/ Swamp Rat tables. There were already a ton of people there standing around, talking and having a good time. There were tons of awesome Scrapyard and Swamp Rat knives on the table ready to go and I was sorely tempted, but the Busse release was @ 2:30 and I had to be strong.
I stood around for a 1/2 hour talking to the other pork-rinds, piglets, hogs and Busse staff and everyone was really cool. I met Eric Isaacson, Porkgunner, Amy-O, R30VTOM (I hope I got that right), Thatmguy, and several other very cool cats, including the Boss Hog himself. I can't remember all the names of the folks I met but everyone was very friendly, even as the crowd lining up to the trough started really packing up. It was hot as hell in there! I got there relatively early so I was up front, but down on the end. I was hoping to score an Active Duty.
At 2:28 and 30 seconds Jerry announced "1 minute 30 seconds!" and everyone got very excited. What would Jerry pull from under the table? The first knife was an Active Duty! "I'll take it!" I yelled, hopping up and down, along with most of the other folks in the crowd. Jerry sees me and and smiles, walks over, handing me the knife. I was first to score! After that it was kind of a blur, I was so psyched to have scored. Amy-O came over and let me pay her and I got out of the way for the other pigs to get their shot.
It was the most fun I've ever had buying a knife.
I wandered around Blade and it was awesome, so many knives from so many different makers. There were a couple of things I was interested in but I resisted. I found a pretty cool sheath for my awesome new Active Duty 2007 Special Edition and scored it for only $14 bucks! No waiting! No extended wear on my factory tactical cardboard sheath! I'm a happy little pork rind.
I may go back tomorrow and pick up the new Scrapyard (I can't remember the name but it's around a 5" blade and awesome). Blade was a blast! I couldn't stay very long because I had to come back to work (where I am now, working very hard as you can see).
A big shout and hearty "Thanks" to all of the Busse folks and fans who made my first trip to Blade (and the real vs. virtual trough) a fun and memorable experience.
All the best,
Andy
