This is a fixed blade, drop point knife made in China. I have tried a few RR folders in the past and found them to be good value. The scales were referred to as Root Wood by the seller. I have no idea what this means but they seem to be some type of stabilized timber product and are quite attractive. The knife was quite sharp as delivered and came up very sharp with a little work on a Sharpmaker.

The tapered blade is flat ground and the full tang grip is a little thinner than you would expect on this knife style. Workmanship was fine and the only issue was a gap on the underside of the blade where it met the bolster. The gap could easily admit water. I filled it with some epoxy.

The blade is a little over 4 inches and LOA is around 8 and a quarter inches.

The sheath is a cheap nylon affair. I would expect that if it were used to carry the knife on a belt that it would be badly cut about before too long.

My curiosity satisfied, I left the knife on a magnetic rack in the kitchen and noticed that it has been popular for meal preparation. The knife slices well and though the razor edge disappears quickly with use, it maintains a good working edge for a respectable period.

This knife cost around 16 bucks and is hard to fault at that price.

It certainly is aesthetically pleasing.

What kind of steel does the maker use? I have to assume 440 or 420 due to the price, but I am curious.

That's a pretty knife, the overall design flow and the handle material. The ugly nylon sheath is undeserving of that knife...

The RR pocket knives have been favorably reviewed, own a couple myself but my favorite has been the linerlocked sodbuster. I have been waiting for some reviews of the fixed blade hunting knives, sounds like a decent knife made of one of the cheaper stainless steels, I would say 440A but that designation is one used on USA made steels, China uses their own steel naming system.

Cant agree more,
Have been a dedicated schrade user since the 60's but recently got 2 rough riders
Good fit and finish, sharp, and sharpens easy, some web sites say it is 440 A
and very inexpensive

I have 4 of these and love them. They are my loner camp knives. I have had a lot of people think it was a $40-$50 knife. If it was carbon it would be a great knife.
