Reporting Clones

If anyone was going to do something about it, it would have been done. They are all over. Thankfully easy to spot.
Far as I know, the only ones I don't see a lot of are Spydercos because they are not worth knocking off- not to say they are bad, Spyderco just does a good job of keeping prices where even ripoffs can't compete. Even Benchmade- who certainly has a lawyer on retainer able to go after them- just lets it go.
Maybe they figure when guys see the design is good but poorly executed, they are going to get their business anyway.
I'll admit to looking at SNG clones (w/o the logo, just a design ripoff), but they are $70 and crap steel.
My guess is 90% of the people buying the clones know what they are doing and aren't expecting great quality.
What's bizarre is that for the same $70 they could get GREAT steel in a design just as useful.
So stupid is as stupid does. Most people make this mistake once.
No one cares except the people on high horses around this Pony Show. You guys crack me up, like you are defending the "honor" of your brand. Sheesh. "A scourge" ? LOL

I did actually report a clone Marfione Custom UTX-85 beard comb I saw on ebay before reading your thread. I was doing my daily Socom Mini search and stumbled across it. First time I've ever reported a clone. Few minutes later I see this thread.

I think counterfeits are bad, but in a way they keep some companies honest. Anyone here who's tried a Green Thorn F95 knows that every other frame lock maker has some answering to do. Because what they can sell for $75 cannot be simply design costs making up the difference. You'd have a hard time find a better put together flipper for $300. I still don't mind spending big money on knives. I buy mostly Chris Reeve, Microtech and Strider and lords know that isn't cheap. But seeing that Green Thorn F95 really changed the way I look at value. I feel the companies I buy from actually earn the extra $400 in tangible value and not me just "supporting the cause".

Plus the pilpul one has to go through in this hobby when moving between modern folders and traditional when it comes to borrowed patterns makes for some full contact mental gymnastics. I think it's fun.

I did not know those were being cloned. Do they include the beard oil and the metal CoA?

Since this thread got brought to the top again, I'd like to respond to the below:

Spyderco is one of the most ripped off brands out there.

It is a scourge. Just ask Sal.

Most of the people in this community care. This forum's owner cares. The companies being hurt care. In turn, people who like the products those companies make should care. Just because you don't doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't.

I couldn't disagree with all of this more strongly. They are cloning Spydercos right down to the paper inserts. Sal has said many times that they spend considerable time and money fighting them. Hell, they took on EBay and often sued numerous vendors for selling fakes as the real product.

Despite what you and some others want to believe, cloning doesn't have a price association. Cheap to high end, they can and do clone them.

They are often times very difficult to spot and often times are quite literally dangerous. In the very least, they hurt the community as a whole. Brand loyalty aside, clones cost us all.

PS: this dude casually drops the word 'pilpul' into conversation and nobody notices?
