I have 3 of Joe's knives and they are so nice. They have a friendly sort of work energy. Difficult to explain but i think it would be impossible for someone not to use one of his knives and likely right away.
I have used mine and they are natural, well balanced, very sharp, pleasure to use knives and tough. Joe torture tests his blades before deciding they are good enough to send out. They probably are one of the most difficult to break FB's anywhere. His sheaths are expertly made as well.
Don't let the low asking price fool you, they are an incredibly good deal. At least 50% 'gift'.

drd. I'm sure you will agree with all that i said above in post #2. Joe Allen made the same comment about being irresistible to not use. (i.e. as soon as you hold it an irresistible urge comes over you to run out and find some branches, etc. to cut)
I would very much appreciate seeing a post in this thread after you receive it, so that both i and others can see if you agree whole heatedly with my enthusiasm for Joe's knives.
When i post with enthusiasm it is because that is exactly how i feel. I see it as being a responsible BF'er to share my experience so that others can make a purchase which they too will be very pleased with.

DrDucati --- thanks for taking this one, its yours!

Roland ---- Thanks!! Im glad you are liking the ones you have. I do my best to make sure that each and every blade that gets finished measures up to what I feel is a good high-performance knife, otherwise it doesnt get finished and ends up as a test blade. and I have made and broken enough of them on purpose to know what it takes to break them, most folks will not ever come close to putting that amount of stress on a blade, and continuing to do so to break one.

Thanks again guys!

Joe

I'm always about saying what I feel about the products here. I'll post an evaluation when I get it. I generally call 'em like I see 'em.

Well the one I have is nice an stays sharp, but Im a sharp fanatic an I had to have one of the nicer handle material ones an in 52100 steel with Joe's heat treatment, Then I'll give my choice between the 1095 an 52100 after I use them for about a month
of every day carry.

Hey joeB, i would like to hear the results of your 52100/1095 comparison testing. Tested by a Knife Professional !

I got the knife today and I have to say I'm very pleased. I've spent more and gotten less. The grinds are nice and symmetrical and the polish is very nice showing the hamon (as required these days:)). The guard seems not to be soldered but is probably epoxied with the scales. OK. The finish on the scales is matted and smooth. The purple heart is unique enough to add character. The shape of the handle fits my hand like few knives I own and the balance is outstanding. The edge is sharp, sharp and over all this is a lot of hand made knife for the money. It is an excellent size for an EDC and the blade shape lends itself to utility.
I'm impressed by the mating of adjacent dissimilar materials and getting them "just right". That is very hard to do. Grind brass, plastic and wood placed side by side and try it yourself sometime.
I'm looking forward to the 52100 also. It may be my favorite knife steel.
Good knife! I'm happy I bought it!
Forgot the sheath. It is excellent leather work. As good as any I've seen. Basket weave and riveted on the back.

Nice ! Thanks drd. What part is "plastic" ? are you referring to the Micarta spacer ? What's your opinion of the sheath workmanship and fit ?
roland

Drducati, thanks! Im glad you like it! The moisture seal on the guard is jbweld, the guys on the knifemakers discussion page speak very highly of it, and i have not ever had a problem with it and the color complimets my favorit finish better than solder. The handle is epoxied after the guard with high strenth epoxy. The spacer is white linen micarta, the only plastic i use is some of the different colored spacers, sold as liner material, some are a fiber material, and some are a plasticy type.

Thanks for the review!

"Plastic" was a generic term. The J-B Weld will be there after the steel has corroded away. That stuff is TUFF! Marine Tex is close but no cigar.
The sheath is as good a sheath as I have ever seen.. As good as Mosher's in my book.

drd, it's reassuring for me to find out that your assessment of Joe's knife & sheath is similar to my own. I very much appreciate Joe's workmanship and felt that my comments are realistic and that others would also find these to be an excellent deal. Your posts let me know that i haven't gotten too far out in left field with opinions that are only specific to my personal preferences.
